Not really when the 3g came out my father waited in line for hours and then they told him no phones left he screamed and made the biggest show in the store it got so bad I had to leave I was ashamed lol out of no where came some 3g iPhones when they said they don't have any

Man, as a retail worker I hate employees like that. Not only did they sell some one else's phone (and they deserve any sort of ranting they get from the person who ends up not getting their reserved phone), they encourage that kind of entitlement behavior. So now it is reinforced in your father that throwing a tantrum is the best way to get what he wants. He's just lucky he found people willing to do that vs. telling him they are going to have to ask him to leave if he doesn't calm down (cause honestly that's the best way to handle that).

Leaving us other retail slaves dealing with entitlement customers like this who think this is the best way to get what they want.

I actually walked into my local Apple Store today, first person to greet me was the store manager. I immediatly took out my email confirmation for reservation first thing he said is "DON'T WORRY!" (not loudly or anything) but basically they have had a few people come in and ask that. He understands it is kinda contridicting (fine print verses whats in the actual email saying they will have it and hold it)

He congratulated me for actually making it through the mess that was yesterday's preorder and double checked to see I was in their system (I showed him my email plus my reservation listed in the iPhone Apple Store app) and I told him due to work I can not make it down to the store till 4 pm. He said that would be no problem and gave me his card and said it would be there, and if there was any issues take his card out and ask to speak with him.

I'm doing an exchange upgrade. As my 3G took a spill a few weeks ago I needed a new phone ASAP and took a 16GB white 3gs at $399. He told me that they will honor 30 day phone return policy ATT is doing and they will take care of everything. The store Im going to will have a ton of people on launch sure but when they get down to only the reservations they will send those without those away. Seeing as they have two cops stationed inside and outside the store during the launch I am not too worried about belligerent people upset they didn't preorder.

i preordered a 16gb iphone 4 online yesterday at my local store....do you think there would be any chance i can go in and change it for a 32gb on the 24th?

Likely not, but if they have any iPhones not on reservation at the store, you might be able to if you're high up in the line.

Agent: I'm sorry, we have no iPhones at the moment.

Jerry: I don't understand, I made a reservation, do you have my reservation?

Agent: Yes, we do, unfortunately we ran out of iPhones.

Jerry: But the reservation keeps the iPhone here. That's why you have the
reservation.

Agent: I know why we have reservations.

Jerry: I don't think you do. If you did, I'd have an iPhone. See, you know how to
take the reservation, you just don't know how to *hold* the reservation and
that's really the most important part of the reservation, the holding. Anybody
can just take them.

Yes, they are holding the phone for you, but there is another thing to consider when you see the language that says that just because you have a reservation doesn't guarantee you will have a phone and that it is first come first served EVEN FOR those with reserved phones at the Apple Store.
For example, if the particular store you have your reserved phone sent to doesn't get its full allocation of phones (for whatever reason), or if there are any that aren't functioning, broken etc, the people with reservations in line first will get first dibs on the phone stock in hand. If you don't get there till the end, there is no guarantee you will have a phone waiting.

Yeah, exactly this is what it seems to me. It's purely just a safeguard so that you can't 'sue them' (sorry, It really bugs me that anyone would even think of sueing apple because they couldn't buy a phone...) if for some reason you don't get your reserved phone.

People need to wake up - we were also told there would be White iPhones available for pre-order, that changed didn't it - there are no guarantees in life and if you scream "we'll sue you Apple" - go ahead and try, they will laugh. If you are that obsessed with a phone then get down there early, until that iPhone 4 is in your hands there is no guarantee of anything, even those who pre-ordered with shipment to their house could have the UPS lose it, or someone steal it off the truck; calm down people....

I stopped by the Manhattan Beach Apple store today and spoke with the manager (like what happened to one of the other previous posters) she told me that if I have one reserved, it will be there for me on launch day, and that they will hold it for me. I also asked her about the line situation (which has been a common question on the iPhone forum pages) and she said that it most likely will be like the iPad launch day release and they will have one line outside the mall, then when you reach the Apple store inside the mall, it separates into two lines, one for people with reservations, and one for walk-ins.

I went into my local apple store today... I did basically the same as all the other posters, I went in and told them I had a few questions about the whole iPhone 4 launch. I told them I reserved a iPhone on the store website and I wanted to make sure that I understood that they would hold one for me. He told me they would, I then asked him to check if my reservation was still there and he directed me to another worker and she checked and it was and told me I was all set. Part of me is still unsure...

I talked to my local apple store yesterday. I was told that when they open, the complete reservation line would be serviced before the first come/ first served line even starts to receive phones.

Just some perspective on numbers of reservations. At the store I reserved mine from (Boca, FL) they received over 1100 reservations.

Boy is that line gonna be fun. :D

Also is the apple store sticklers on the account holder being there to pick up and iphone. Example my mom holds the account but I happen to have the day off work, can I go pick up a reserved iphone?

Can anyone clear this up? Can another person pick up my reservation, if I give that person a print of the reservation email and maybe a copy of my ID with him to the Apple Store on june 24?

They better hold phones for people who have reservations otherwise it kind of defeats the purpose of having a reservation.

I for one am having mine shipped to me by apple.com. They better have my phone at my doorstep because they already took 360 dollars out my account. lol

For what it's worth, I had this exact same thing happen to me last year with the 3GS launch. I had one reserved, called the store manager in advance, and got the same line that most of you are posting here. The manager ALWAYS says "Don't worry, we'll have one for you". Of course, it's their job to say that.

Lo and behold, launch day comes around, I go to the store after work, and they're sold out. Sold out of the "general stock" and sold out of the reserves. Apparently it's like a booking a flight... They take X number of reservations but they know that Y people won't show up. So they "overbook" to compensate. Unfortunately, if they're off in their calculations, some people will get screwed. Sigh... Luckily it only took me a week to get a 3GS after that as they weren't in very high demand and the wait time for new orders was only a few days.

After that experience, I would never reserve again. I'm getting my iPhone 4 shipped directly to my house. :D

It's funny how this system works. I remember for the 3GS launch, our line was split into two, but this guy brought an email with him saying he has a reserved one but his name wasn't in the system. He still got in.

Also, my apple store didn't separate the stock into two quantities. All the workers kept grabbing them from this huge table behind the genius bar.
