Going to give my 2016 13” MBP (16 / 512) to my younger cousin. Randomly he had been mentioning that his old computer (a 2011 MBA) has been starting to give him real issues, and he could use a new one but I know money’s tight for him to buy one.

As others have mentioned, trade-in value is low, and the secondary market value is also low given 1st gen butterfly keyboard and all the issues this generation of MBPs have had. That being said, I got a new battery/topcase on this about 1.5yrs ago (a free fix for butterfly keyboard service program) so there’s only about 120 cycles / 94% battery on this, so it‘s still a great machine that I know he’ll appreciate.

Have to keep my desktop 7.1 and 16 w 5600m. M1 macs are not qualified with the software i use for work yet. But the new 16 m1pro will join my house of m1airs and be buddies.

Apple gave me $1170 CAD for my 2018 15" i7/512GB/16GB.

Listed it for $1400 locally and had no bites because my top case had sticker ghosting.

In good condition, you can almost make more than trade-in value by selling private party, but there is the simplicity of the trade-in sales model that just makes it easy and often not worth the additional hassle of selling yourself.

yeah its in excellent condition issue is I really doubt anyone would want to buy a 3 yr old macbook with NO additional protection, I never had applecare on it, so basically if something happens to it the person is screwed..and why would anyone want to buy an old computer when if they add a little more they can get a new one so not sure what to do

I think you'd be surprised - I've never had trouble selling older Mac hardware :)

I normally sell on craigslist, but my 16” has been buggy so I’m not going to bother trying to get the extra few hundred bucks and I’m just going to trade in. Weirdly enough the value went up by like a hundred bucks compared to when I checked last week
