I am wondering how large the co-relation is between the number of crashes that occur and how many and/or what apps you have? I have deleted most of my apps and it appears to have resulted in less crashes.

I think Safari crashes if you have too many tabs open, and also some sites just don't like the safari browser on the iphone like forbes.com.

I doubt there's a link, I have 2 pages of apps, one of the stock ones and the other ones I barely use..it usually crashes even without using the ipod..but today I was viewing this forum and it crashed on me,I reopened safari, hard quit it holding the home button for like 5 secs, resetted safari under settings, history cache and cookies, rebooted the phone and while viewing the forum again, and listening to the iPod it crashed on me
