This is my first iPad so I can't refer to that but here is a picture next to my mid-2009 Macbook Pro. I turned the brightness up to max for this picture for easiest comparison.

The reason the MBP is a little darker is that the screen was slightly more tilted back. As far as color, its the same. So, unless my MBP has a yellow tint, mine should be fine. And even if it does, I don't care because it looks just like my all my other stuff.

Thanks for posting. Your iPad looks like mine, mildly yellow tint. :p

Yeah, they changed 3 times for me. First one because of a bad home button issue and very bad yellow tint, second one was only home button issue, screen looks fine with mildly yellow tint, third one is my current one, home button issue is solved, but the screen still looks mildly yellow tinted like the 2nd one.

Again, return it for a refund, not exchange. You'll never be satisfied.

iPad 3rd gen on right.

I don't know if you'll be able to tell much since I'm comparing it to a Dell Latitude WLED 1920x1080 display on a 15.6".

The blurriness on the laptop screen is due to focus. Photo is lacking any serious detail since I took it with my Nexus S instead of a proper camera.

The screen in the back is the laptop (left of the photo), while the new ipad is on the right. Both cranked up to 11.

I wouldn't even say that, the photo made it look more yellow than it was (I didn't white balance the photo). My point was that it is the same exact tint as my MBP (it might even be slightly cooler in temperature). I would never say it was yellow tinted though. I certainly wouldn't say it was "bad" enough to exchange.

A&E needs a new reality series. "Apple OCD intervention"

Wow...your ipad color seems perfect. :p

iPad 1 on the left, iPad 3 on the right. Max brightness. Not sure if I have the yellow tint or not, but I love it the way it is now. :)

My display is fine.

The display on my new 16GB black Wi-Fi iPad does not have a yellow tint. I'm very picky and I'm totally happy with it.

In the past, I did exchange an AT&T iPhone 4 because of yellow tint. And the display on my latest Verizon iPhone 4s was very yellow when I got it. But after a few weeks it slowly went away. Now it's totally OK. I've heard that the glue or something in the bonding of the layers of the display can cause a yellow tint until everything has dried and bonded properly.

Here is mine. iPad3 on the left, iPad2 on the right, both brightness at 100% for the photo. My iPad3 is also much cooler than my iPhone4S (which is the same as the iPad2), and the same tone as my wife's iPhone4. Dont forget, if you're looking at my image on a warmish screen, it will look warm.. you'll just have to trust me that it is cool in person if you cant tell.

Mine has multiple personality disorder.

Hey it's yellow!

Oh no, now it's blue!

Ahh, there we go, just right.

I hope you enjoyed this post, and that it might prove to people that taking a photo of a display is never an accurate way to show the "tint" that it has.

Sadly I know the posts will keep happening, the nonsense will never end. And yes, these are all the same 3rd gen iPad. All I did was change the white balance on my camera, and even the best camera's "auto-balance" can be thrown off to add more yellow or blue. There is just no way to test things with a photo, even if you put a 2nd gen next to a 3rd gen in a photo, the white balance might favor one display or the other.

a comparison will show a difference, even if the balance favors one over the other. If the cooler one shows slightly warmer, the warmer one will skew even warmer, and vice versa.. you wont be able to flip flop them, they'll both shift proportionally. obviously what I see in my hands is unlikely to replicate exactly; and a one off shot is pointless. On my monitor, and my camera screen, and my eyeballs, the ipad2 is definitely warmer than the 3, even though none match exactly to real life... But thanks for the show.

But that was my point. All that matters is what YOU think of YOUR iPad. Posting photos just fuels the fire of people who are upset with their own and is not very productive discussion. When in reality if they are upset all they have to do is go to Apple and get a replacement or refund, quick and easy.

I think I was lucky enough to get a 'cool/neutral' screen:

Compared to my 2009 iMac:

Compared to a white piece of paper:

What do you guys think??

I think Apple has decided to go warmer (yellow) with their screens. From my iPhone 4 (cool, blueish) to 4S (warm, yellow). Too bad you can't adjust to your preference. I suppose I like it cooler, but I don't feel there's anything "wrong" with it warmer so I kept it, the 4S that is. iPad is warm like the 4S, so that makes me think Apple had decided to do this although I wonder why. They don't use focus groups, so somebody at Apple decided it would look better warmer.

I think the OP is a little over the top. Ever think maybe it is just you?

Man....this reminds me of the OCD that was prevalent in the android forums on XDA. Granted....there was some quality control issue, but people were simply ridiculous.

Also, interfreak...your ipad looks perfectly fine.

Lol at anyone who thinks random pictures from random cameras in random lighting situations is going to prove anything.

Take a photo of a white computer screen. Then stop the lens down 1/2 stop and angle the camera 10 degrees up or down and take another photo. You will be the proud owner of 2 photos of the same screen that look completely different.

And you expect to draw some sort of accurate conclusion from DIFFERENT screens?

Again, lol.

Please do not take offense. But that is a bad example (well other than the fact that taking photos skews things anyways). You are comparing a display that is not calibrated (your laptop, which 99% of them are always cool out of the box, even Mac's, just not as cool).

Or you could set a custom white balance from a pure white source and then take a pic... If you know what WB is, you should use it, get off Auto!

Agreed, but that was just an 'I'm curious, let me compare' type of thing. I understand there are an infinite amount of variables in there.

The biggest one being the camera and the White Balance used.

That picture is, as are others in this thread, supposed to be taken as a relative comparison, not as an absolute indicator of temperature.

That being said, my laptop display does look cooler and the iPad kind of matches it. Now I'm not the one to jump on the 'Warm is evil' bandwagon, just thought it was an interesting comparison.
