Can anyone chime in? The thread title asks.
Only if you go outside and beat it with a baseball bat in their parking lot.
Wouldn't this depend on the state?
Unfortunately, they did with mine. $8
Well it seem it might now, considering you got charged. Interesting. I live in California so I always see the recycle fee so that may be true.
What's a recycle fee?
Another tax that California levies against their citizens. Coming soon to a state near you.
Yep, true. Just found this officially on the Best Buy site:
The electronic waste recycling fee applies to video display products such as computer monitors and TVs sold in California. This fee is used to offset the cost of properly recycling these items.
I also got stuck paying the $8 here in Southern California.
When the fee is 75 bucks we will recall what a bargain 8 bucks was...
Sounds like a similar system to what we have here: when you buy any home electronic device you pay a 'small' fee which covers recycling. It includes "free product takeback". If you have a new TV, fridge or cooker etc. delivered to your house, they will take away your old device for no additional charge and have it cleanly and safely recycled.
None in Texas as of now thank God!
Yeah I'm in Texas too.
Atlanta 1 month ago $0
nothing here in oregon
Nothing in Wisconsin (absolutely nothing, not just no recycle fee )
no but Oregon past a $15 dollar recycle fee when you drop of electronics off at a recycle center.
In washington there is no fee, unless you live near oregon, and the recycles will be sent to oregon then there is a $15 fee.
Thank GOD no recycling fee in NJ.....YET
I'm sure we will jump in and be on par....then higher than everyone else in the country....that's what NJ likes to do they just haven't thought of it yet....
Electronic devices that meets specified criteria are subject to the fee. iPads do not meet all the critera. Therefore, they are not considered covered electronic devices and not subject to the fee. If you are charged a fee for the iPad, request a refund. I specialize in sales tax and have confirmed this with the CA Board of Equalization and the CA Dept of Toxic Substances Control. As of today, only the state of CA imposes this fee.
