I decided I'm going to buy AppleCare+ for my titanium watch. Was working out yesterday and I almost scratched it when I was on the ground.

However, am I missing something? When I tried to buy it says "24 months of coverage for $149" or monthly for $4.99 per month. Over two years = $120 vs. $149? Or is that 3 years total for $149?
Edition watches come with 2 years of warranty as standard and the AppleCare insurance increases it to 3 years total.

Just added AC+ to my Natural Titanium, Replacement for accidentals alone justify the cost.
I’m curious for this. I’ve owned Apple Watches for more than 6 years over 6 generations (0 SS , 3-6 Al and 7 SS), except that the screen of Al models are easy to scratch, how are you going to accidentally damage the Watch? Or did it really happen? I’m all for paying for nice gadgets but I am not for paying for nothing.

personally, I have only had one accident and it wouldn’t be covered any way. I bumped my aluminium S4 onto a turnstile on my way out of public transport. It made a deep scratch on the screen. like a cross between a scratch and crack but not really a crack so I just lived with it till I upgraded a couple years later.

my father in law though recently smashed his s4 aluminium. He was either putting it on or taking it off. it slipped from his hand and fell on the floor face down. It cracked everywhere. There were pieces of screen completely taken off from that Fall.
the repair would have been 280 pounds. I told him just to replace with an s7 as there was no AppleCare.

Did it really happen ? Insurance companies have been asking this for years, I guess it can happen and when it does I know it'll be ok.

I’ve always said Apple care is pretty much a mandatory for the Apple Watch, but I have recently abandoned without purchasing AppleCare, and I think that’s partially because I do trust the sapphire display from any inadvertent hits on objects, (And no, I’ve never dropped my watch over the years.) I don’t wear my watch in water or bring it in the shower.

For me, I just take the extra money, purchase extra bands and accessories, where I’m cautious enough where I don’t see the need for AppleCare, but for some people; who are really accident prone, I still make that recommendation.

I have my new SB Ti S7. I have been contemplating, but I would probably get it for below reasons.

1. I often wear this at the shower, swim in the pool, kayaking, and dishwashing - the water lock often start to sound clogged on my previous S5 model due to impurities in the water - then the speaker would sound weaker. No matter how much you try to clean.

2. As someone mentioned before, devices with Apple Care+ can be sold faster. (Even moreover with this year’s, people are can update after a year next year because of the expected design change.)

3. Peace of mind. I drop mine once every two months or so and even with the sapphire glass, I would still like that peace of mind.

4. Faster repair service (Express) directly thru Apple compared to general insurance service.

5. Maybe my Chalk Pink band could also be replaced if it got pen marks and other non-erasable stains??(Can anyone confirm…?)

6. With Ti model, a total of 3 years of service is pretty neat for around USD140.

7. If I had natural Ti which could get scratch marks more easily than SB, more reason to get this!

Is this based on DLC vs PVD ? There is a post here with an SB nicked straight through exposing the natural metal. With the right kind of bump or scrape DLC can be defeated and the repair costly without AC+, I returned my SB for the natural as the natural can be buffed clean. Also IMO the appearance is stunning and cant be confused with the aluminum model.

It was mostly based on my observations from many pictures posted here. Not sure if DLC is that viable either…because after all, it is just a coating and people forget about that! From pictures, it just seems Natural Ti easily get some scratches from daily wear and tear…..and I am pretty careless and my movements can be a bit too much because I sometimes rush, so I am sure I would get many scratches on the watch if I had it. Even if you could get rebuffed, i am not that good with hands....and i am a bit paranoid about metal powders on clothes and coming onto air…(I already live in air polluted area, so I want to be careful when I can….call me paranoid…)

Also in my personal experience, I used to own a Silver Stainless watch from another brand and I remember I had struggle matching with my clothes…. because some days my clothes look better with a gold watch, but then other days with silvers…so I settled on SB Ti this time to add a new touch and not worry too much about the color…. Space Black is a bit stand out, but it because a bit neutral as the screen is also black…

I am not that concerned for people mistakenly think I wear Alu…. I think Alu watches have great places in people‘s lives and I am sure most of them probably get more use out of it than me….haha…and 99% recycle alu case sounds really the right thing to go for, actually. Feeling a bit guilty about not choosing alu despite these Global Warming discussions, so we should probably go quiet…haha…

I didn't buy the Ti for people to look at and comment, My purchase was purely based on longevity, since I upgrade every 3 yrs the Ti will hold up better then the Alu, If I were to upgrade yearly I would definitely choose an alu.

Just bought an SBTi today and did not buy any extra warranty. I am using it sparingly when I am outside or at work (office). If I know that I will be doing any physical activity, I plan to take it off :)

Got a natural titanium last week, with AC+ ... I like the peace of mind of knowing that I can get replaced for $100 anytime ... ??
I’m with you on that. I posted earlier that my father in law dropped his s4 aluminium and it cracked pretty badly. Before this I didn’t really See cracked watches. But last night my mom was quite disappointed, she dropped her s5 alumium and it cracked. Accidents happen. But it’s good to know you have a quick fix if these do. given the ion x glasses were probably more shatter resistant than sapphire, then maybe AppleCare for titanium isn’t so bad!

For those who got the Titanium or Hermes watches, did you get AppleCare? Have you used it?

I'm wondering if i should get it for the Titanium watch. The Ti isn't massively more than the Stainless Steel one but the AppleCare is double in price. I know it's for 3 years instead of 2 but still seems pricely.

However, breaking it would also cost more to repair! So would be good to know what others did?
I can answer that. The battery on my wife’s Hermes just went below 80%. That significantly diminishes battery life. The 3 year Apple Warranty warranty on the Hermes watch expired a few months back. I previously paid Apple $ 90 to replace my battery on a series 4 stainless. They replaced it with another used watch, which had a new battery. You don’t get the same watch back.

However, they said they do not do battery replacements on the Hermes. It will damage the watch. Fortunately, when my AppleCare expired, I accepted Apple’s offer of a monthly extension of Apple Care at $ 5.99 a month. They are sending me a brand new unopened Hermes series 5 watch (band not included). The form stated it would be $ 400 without Apple Care.

I have the monthly extended care plan on 3 other Apple products.

I purchased Apple Care for my wife’s series 5 Hermes. It expired 3 months ago. I then decided to go on Apple’s extended Apple Care. Cost is $ 5.99 a month. Three days ago, I brought it to the Apple Store for a battery replacement. The individual was knowledgeable and said Apple doesn’t replace the battery on the Hermes watch. That shocked me because they replaced the battery on my regular series 4 stainless. Since I was on extended Apple Care, I’m getting a brand new unopened Hermes series 5. On a Hermes, I would keep the extended Apple Care on indefinitely.

Thanks so much for posting this. That super interesting actually. I eventually went ahead with Applecare for the titanium watch. I went for the monthly payments actually which would keep going on even after three years. for the battery itself it seems worth it, particularly given your experience. I got my Titanium watch (s7) in Nov 2021 and as of today the battery is at 85%. So far the watch itself seems pretty durable.

It's interesting your wife's watch was replaced with a brand new s5 Hermes Watch. I think watches are generally replaced when battery replacements take place but i believe it's with refurbished watches, not with super brand new ones. A family member of mine also got their s4 (which was super scratched up) replaced because of a battery replacement. But they paid for the replacement (no applecare on that watch).

The Apple rep said something to the effect that battery replacement on the Hermes typically damaged the watch on opening it. I guess they decided it wasn’t worth the labor effort, have the watch damaged, and not be able to charge the customer. As I said, I recently had Apple replace my battery on my S4 stainless. I paid around $ 90. Although I take Apple Care on my laptops, and Ipads, I don’t take it on my watches. The stainless are very durable, and battery failures typically come after the 2 year warranty expires. Aluminum watches are cheap, and I would rather replace the watch with the latest model than pay for a battery repair.
