For those with new imac and 750GB HDD

    How much free space was on the HDD when you got it? bout 730-740GB?

    mine due to arrive next week been shipped today

    My 500 only had 465gb available period minus the operating system and all that jazz.

    Only 698 is formatted. Just like a 120 is only about 111. Remember 1GB=1024KB but that's not how drives are calculated as far as space. They do 1GB=1000 so it is off. After the OS install of course there was less than that, but b/c I sent it back today and am awaiting replacement for screen issues, I didn't get the chance to reinstall the OS and strip out the stuff I don't need, ie. extra languages and drivers.

    About 465GB is the actual capacity of a 500GB drive. 500GB is just marketing bogus where they seem to think that 1GB = 1 million bytes. So the actual capacity of a 750GB drive would be about 698GB if I'm not mistaken.

    Yeah, it's 698, then around 10 or so for all the software. I sent my back because of screen issues as well, so I don't know the exact software number.
