iPhone XS Max For trading in Verizon iPhone XS for upgrading. How does the return box work if it gets lost by them

Like not making it to Verizon but instead gets lost during sorting at the FED EX
:/ very worried about how that process works for sending back a phone by mail.
In person it wouldn’t be as complicated.
