My iPhone 16 on 18.7.2 turned on the update available badge tonight only offering 26.1.
Strange to start luring people in for 26.1 so close to 26.2.

Ah, Forbes, the organization that tells me to change my Gmail password every week and says the FBI has access to everything I own. Some of the worst tech reporting out there.
Not really familiar with Forbes - recognise the name but not much more. Didn't realise it had a "reputation"!

It doesn't look like you read the article. Apple isn't forcing anyone to upgrade.

Indeed. The actual title is "Apple iOS 26.2—1 Billion iPhone Users Must Install New Update", and it's saying you Must, in their opinion, for security reasons.

I'm not updating either. My work phone, where IT decides the update schedule, is on 26.

I half remember a statement from apple years ago that apple had the capability to force updates, possibly a reiteration of this theme.

Complete in total nonsense.
18.7.3 RC is currently available through the beta channels, for *all* iOS 18 devices, including all of those that can update to 26.
Head to Apple’s developer website and you’ll see they don’t make an IPSW for any of the latest iOS 18 builds available for devices that can run iOS 26. Over the air delta updates, sure, but if you have to do a full restore it’s gonna be iOS 26.

Apple’s potentially irradiating daisies with plutonium. As Apple, daisies and plutonium are things that actually exist, there’s the potential for it to happen.
