Most PC users are going to upgrade.
Actually most won't. There are still people who run Windows 98. What's funny is, a lot of the people that do upgrade will do so because XP sucks and they hope Vista is better. I might on my laptop, but I'll probably be getting an iBook to replace it anyway, so best case is I dual boot or run it in emulation. My server is still running Win2000, which works ok for now and I see no reason to bother upgrading until it dies. Even then.

On my Mac, I plan on upgrading to Leopard as soon as possible.

I liked the entry, "I wouldn't buy [Vista] with somebody else's money."
Seems like "Hasta la Vista" would be a nice, catchy line to sign off on Apple's release of Leopard when it comes out. :) I'm loving giving our IT fits over this. (He's the one who said, "if you use Apple, make applesauce.")

Try that line on him. I like it. :D

A lot of offices are actually making an upgrade to XP still, sadly. Plenty of Windows NT 2000 around

Someone check out the suicide rate at M$ please...

There was a related story on this subject that described M$ facing the challenge of moving all of their talent to keeping XP healthy. And, here's the kicker, that they have to spend too much energy in designing the system because of all those printers and legacy software that has to run on it. And, they continued, Apple didn't have that problem in the FIVE new releases of their OS since XP came out. What a bunch of crap, and we KNOW it! OF COURSE OSX runs legacy SW, even in OS9. And while not every printer is still supported, it's only because of the method of connection, for the most part.
M$ apologists are everywhere! And you'd think with more money in R+D than Apple is WORTH (<-exageration for effect, but not too far off!), that they could come up with SOMETHING.
Here's my 2 cents: Vista, internally, is a DISASTER on a monumental scale. M$ knows this, and are scrambling. Heads are rolling. And the longer they take, the less flashy this 3 year old (and counting) technology will look when released. 40% more lines of code! 50 MILLION for an OS? And they are SHAKING in their boots knowing the Google is pretty close to perfecting the web-based office-like suite.
Here's a cool one... Internet Explorer 7. You know, the beta? It's available. Ever tried to load it? I can't. Tried it on my PRISTINE Sony Vaio. Go look at the forums on the PC sites for THIS little taste of the miracle of M$ software development. Thank GOD for Apple. Really, Thank GOD, everyone's GOD, whatever your particular GOD is.`

Its also amazing how much Forbes *HATE* Microsoft, bloody hell, i've never seen that level of hate in an article before, I mean if that guy reviews vista even if its better than Tiger (unlikely), he will slam it with any comparison of Leopard. They look like they are on the way out, especially with the Mini Microsoft stuff too. Anyway they say the higher you are the harder you fall...

The printer thing is so true... In a recent Which review of printers all but one that wasn't made by Dell (they were rated really badly) was supported on OS X.
