Could be. Though given that Ford is basically an American company, and that the software was made in the US, I would have expected them to use proper language, at least in the American language pack. Oh well...
One other difference that I remember was that before the update it used to reply, "I didn't understand that", and after the update it would say, "I didn't get that". As a non-native English speaker I could be wrong about this, but none of them strikes me as being more British or more American than the other. They both seem perfectly acceptable to me in both flavours of English, which makes me believe that they may have exaggerated a bit when trying to differentiate the language packs. I think they tried to make British English sound a bit more formal, and American English a bit more casual - hence the "cell" thing.
