Hello all,

I am trying to use Reddit on a Power Mac G5 DP 1.8. i.reddit.com is pretty limited and when I try to access the mobile version, m.reddit.com, I am redirected to the regular web page. Is there a way to force InterWebPCC to use the mobile version of the site?

You need to tell the browser to use a different user agent. I believe InterWebPPC is a variant of Firefox right? So you can either install an addon that has a user agent or go into about:config, do a search for user agent and plug one in.

You can do a Google search for appropriate user agents for mobile devices and then just copy/paste. If you use an addon, you should be able to just turn it on/off. Changing the one in the browser is global.

I have a user agent addon for T4Fx, but I can't look for it at the moment.

Alright…here we go.

Here is my copy of User Agent Switcher for TenFourFox as it was in May 2020 before I fully switched to Intel Macs.

Note, this will unzip to an XPI file, which you will need to manually add on the about:addons page. Just drag and drop the XPI and it'll install.

Give https://old.reddit.com at try. It's just the old layout before the semi recent change and is still full featured. Otherwise the above add-on or adding a mobile user agent override to about:config will work as well.

Cheers
I can attest to that, old Reddit works great even on G4's running Tiger. I even use it on my modern Macs due to it being much faster and easier to use than the tablet-redesign.

I forgot all about this. I still have the zip file. I unpacked it and get this instead of an XPI file.

@ww2_1943 You can select the user agent in Preferences - even better, you can assign different user agents to specific websites too.

This facility is also available via about:config - it's a very powerful feature and essential to better browsing on PPC.
I experimented with it today. Gmail loaded the mobile version. I think HTML still works better. I tried some other sites and I still get the desktop browser version. In another post you gave instructions for adding a user agent for a Nokia phone. Can you post that again. I thought I saved it but can't find it.

The Nokia phone user agent is also used by Classilla and that's available as a preference in InterWebPPC.

My preferred mobile user agent now is from a KaiOS feature phone:

Mozilla/5.0 (Mobile; rv:48.0) Gecko/48.0 Firefox/48.0 KAIOS/2.0

I experimented with the user agents included in preference and that one was not included.

Looking at the link you provided @eyoungren said he used an iPad iOS 13 user agent. I believe the one in InterWebPPC is for an older version of iOS. Now I want to put together a comprehensive list of available user agents.

@wicknix I came across a Fire Fox extension addon called Fire IE. I haven't tried it but it may only work on X86 machines anyway. If it does work or can be made to work, could it be a useful add on for adding compatibility to InterWeb if the addon can be updated with the latest updates for IE 11? Obviously, I really don't have a deep understanding of all of this so it might be a ridiculous idea. https://github.com/yxl/Fire-IE

The Classilla user agent in preferences is the Nokia N90 phone one.

A problem with using iOS user agents is that often a website will present you with a page telling you to download the app - you have to experiment, in the past I've used Android, Windows Phone and my current winner is the KaiOS one.

Okay, I get it now.

How do I add KaiOS to preference? I guess I have to add "Mozilla/5.0 (Mobile; rv:48.0) Gecko/48.0 Firefox/48.0 KAIOS/2.0" to a config file?
