Since when did apple started forcing you to update to latest version of iOS. Phone has been trying to make me update to iOS 17 for weeks now. Now I can update my watch until I update phone to iOS 17. My iPad and MacBook are trying to do the samething.

How exactly is it trying to force you? watchOS updates have always been tied to iOS updates.
Right but if iOS 16 is up to date, it shouldn’t be wanting me to update to iOS 17. It should be an option right? Trying to update the watch but it say I can’t with out updating iPhone and the only available is 17.

Suggesting you install something isn't forcing you to install it. My work Mac gives me 3 chances to install macOS updates and then installs them automatically (via JAMF), that's being forced to install something.

There is no such thing as iOS 16 being up to date anymore. iOS 17 is the next update for iOS 16 users.

(With the exception for devices that cannot update to iOS 17 which will still receive security patches on 16.)

If you are on iOS 16.x you can still install 16.7.2 on devices that can be updated to iOS 17. Tried this evening and it worked fine.

Yes, and then the Settings app will then start pushing iOS 17 updates to you. It will not say that you are up to date while on 16.

Makes sense. Its the same with Mac. You can download updates, if there are any, for earlier OS versions if you wanna stay on using that.
