Forcedentry exploit on older hardware

I think I freaked out my mother in law with the Forcedentry exlpoit on her mid 2014 Macbook Air which isn't upgradeable beyond 10.10.5. I guess my first question is, how susceptible is someone? And secondly, is there anything that can be done outside of replacing her machine?

A 2014 Air can be upgraded to Big Sur, and can run it fairly well

I don't think there was a Mid 2014 Air and there isn't any Mac that was capped at Yosemite. Any Mac on 10.10 can at least go to 10.11. The only Airs capped at El Cap were the 08-09's.
