Forcing a modified EDID?

I have a MBP that I'm connecting to my TV via a mini DisplayPort to HDMI adapter. When connected directly to my TV I get the proper resolution and refresh rate. However, when I connect the computer to my Sony AV receiver I'm unable to get the proper settings. I've tried SwitchResX and can't quite get the right settings.

However, using SwitchResX I can export the proper EDID from the TV so is it possible to force OSX to use that EDID when connected to the AV Receiver?
