Is it possible to pair the Watch with different bluetooth earbuds than the Airpods? Would it then work well with calls and/or dictation? Anyone any experience on this?

I can and do pair my S5 with Jabra Elite 65t earphones. I have not used it for calls or dictation.

Yes. I do this on purpose as it’s the main value from the watch for me! like another poster I think dictation is better than scribbling replies.

I haven’t tried this for dictation, but I have done calls from my Watch using AirPods and to the other person on the call it sounds exactly the same as if your were calling from your iPhone.

Have you experienced problems with AirPods?

I use scribble quite a bit and find it works pretty well. One tip for success is to scribble a word at a time, rather than letter by letter. It seems to use fuzzy logic and word lists to better guess any vague letters in the context of where it is in the word.

I guess it kinda depends on your surroundings. If I’ve forgotten my phone then most likely I’m out and about and dictation doesn’t really work there.
It works nicely for me outside of my home (not that home is a quiet place for me... my toddler and baby seem to hate peace and quiet, and have teamed up to do everything in their power to ensure we have as little of it as possible). I don't recall if there was a big difference in going from a Series 1 to the Series 4, but the number of places I can get away with accurate dictation is surprising to me. But then it's worth noting that dictation is near-perfect for me in quiet locations, so I'm already coming from a solid performance. I know dictation fails some people even under perfect conditions, so it makes sense that adding background noise won't help matters.

What I'd hope others take way from our exchange is that dictation can work really well, to the point of replacing texting on your phone (assuming little to no esoteric language usage or specialized terminology)... it just depends on how well the dictation feature works for you. Evidently, it can range from fantastic to unusable.

Totally right. Dictation works awesome for me but fails my best friend every time even though she doesn’t have any accents or mushy speech.

sorry to ask but i'd like to understand better.

are people saying that, given the condition that with an iPhone left at home - but connected to the internet, regardless of the iPhone being connected by Wi-Fi or cellular, that there is a difference in what calls can be received and if messages can be received on the Watch based on if the Watch's cellular network is LTE or not-LTE?

In the middle of several books.
I reloaded Phone Buddy on my new SE and it is working much better than it did on the SE1. I will continue to monitor over the weekend. The new app update is a lot better as well.

Those with a new SE or more modern phone than the original SE should give Phone Buddy a test drive. Very handy app, especially when it comes to expensive items like the Apple Watch and iPhone.

I beta test Phone Buddy. The dev is very responsive and always working on the app, new features, constantly tweaking things and asking for my opinion. It’s gotten so much better since that first time I contacted him about an issue over a year ago.

The only thing that I don’t care for and consider a waste of watch app space with the new update, are the two options for fake calling.

Yes I agree and mentioned that. There’s a reason for it that I’m not at liberty to discuss per the Dev’s request. It does serve a purpose though.

Any new features on the horizon and or specific app focus area?

I really like that the app now asks if you want to reenable active mode.
He did mention that something is in the works for the next couple weeks but left it a surprise so I have no clue what it is. Also still working on the WiFi safe zone that’s giving him a hard time which would be a killer feature if he gets it working properly. If you have any suggestions or recommendations, he’s very open to them. Shoot him an email. Doesn’t have the “my way or the highway” mentality.

One thing I noticed today in my testing, is that when you leave your watch behind, all you get on the phone is a single notification that can be easily missed. It would be nice if you got the buzzer alarm alert like you do on the watch when you leave your phone behind. I didn’t see anyway to change the alert noise going to the phone so that you have to take notice.

Just passed this along. I’ll let you know when I hear back. It’s Sunday but usually get a reply within the hour.

The dev just replied. Said it’s cool idea and added it to the feature list but may take a bit due to reduced capacity.
