Apple's new iPhone 17, iPhone Air, iPhone 17 Pro, and iPhone 17 Pro Max models are now being delivered to customers worldwide following the pre-order period that began on Friday, September 12. For those who didn't pre-order or chose to wait, many configurations on Apple's online store in the U.S. and elsewhere are facing an additional 1-3 week shipping delay beyond launch day, with delivery estimates pushing into late September to mid-October. However, delivery or in-store pickup at select Apple Store locations on launch day is still an option.

As of writing, Apple's online stores in the United States and Canada haven't yet been updated to show pickup availability, but there could be shortages for some configurations, though there could be some variation state by state. Meanwhile across the pond, all ‌iPhone 17 colors and configurations are available for Apple Store pickup either today or tomorrow in countries including France, Germany, Italy, Spain, and the United Kingdom. Apple Stores in Australia, China, India, Japan, Malaysia, Mexico, South Korea, Türkiye, and the UAE are also offering same-day pickup options.

To order a product with ‌Apple Store‌ pickup, add the product to your bag on Apple.com or in the ‌Apple Store‌ app, proceed to checkout, select the "I'll pick it up" option, enter your ZIP or postal code, choose an available ‌Apple Store‌ location, select a pickup date, and select a 15-minute check-in window. Payment is completed online, and a valid government-issued photo ID and the order number may be required upon pickup.

‌iPhone 17 models may also be available for walk-in customers at ‌Apple Store‌ locations with sufficient inventory, but availability can't be guaranteed. Walk-in customers may be placed into a separate queue with lower priority upon arrival to the store.

The iPhone 17 has an A19 chip that supports Apple Intelligence, an excellent OLED display with a 120Hz ProMotion refresh rate and Always-On functionality, a dual-lens camera system with two 48-megapixel lenses, an Apple-designed networking chip, more scratch resistant front glass, a Camera Control button for quick camera access, and a customizable Action button. Pricing starts at $799.

The iPhone Air is Apple's new ultra‐thin iPhone, measuring just 5.6mm thick, making it the slimmest phone in its lineup. It replaces the "Plus" model and sits between the iPhone 17 and the Pro models in size with a 6.5-inch ProMotion 120Hz display. Its body is built with grade 5 titanium, with Ceramic Shield 2 on both front and back, giving better scratch and crack resistance. It's got a single 48MP rear camera, while the front has an 18MP TrueDepth system. Internally, it's powered by the A19 Pro chip, along with 12 GB RAM. Networking and connectivity are upgraded via new Apple‐designed modem (C1X), and it's eSIM-only. The iPhone Air starting price is $999.

The iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max are Apple's new flagship models, built with lightweight aluminum for better heat management and featuring a new pill-shaped rear "camera plateau" housing a triple 48MP camera system with advanced 8× telephoto zoom, LiDAR, and pro-grade video tools. Both offer brighter 120Hz ProMotion displays reaching 3,000 nits outdoors, with improved anti-reflective coatings and always-on functionality. Powered by the A19 Pro chip with vapor chamber cooling, they deliver faster on-device AI performance and stronger sustained speeds. Connectivity includes Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6, Thread, eSIM-only support, and USB-C with USB3 speeds. Battery life stretches up to 39 hours on the Pro Max, while Qi 2.2 25W fast charging and MagSafe enhancements improve daily use. Storage starts at 256GB and extends to 2TB on the Pro Max, with Pro prices from $1,099.

Pre-ordering doesn't always guarantee you will be the first to get the new one. It's much better to just wait and then pick one from the store when it's available.

🤔 Yall think all that (massive) launch day pickup without pre-order means Apple finally got production straight or is demand just way down this time?

Saw the orange Pro Max in person and man it looks horrendous! 😱😅

And that iPhone Air… once you slap a case on it the whole thin and light thing is gone. No point unless you run it bare and risk scratches every time it falls or bumps something…

2-3 week wait in Australia too for the base iPhone 17. They barely stocked the stores other than for pre-orders in Australia. I call that a complete failure for a release, having almost no stock to sell to walk in customers, at opening. Unreal.

Are they moving to the Rolex model now for releases? 😆

I don't think it's correct. While it says for "store pickup" today, when you go to checkout in your cart, it won't allow pickup.
I tried on many different models/sizes but while it says all "available today" on the main product screen, none were actually available for pickup on checkout.

that argument with the air makes 0 sense. Compared to a thicker phone with a case, its still gonna be thinner.

Looks like Apple is trying to create artificial demand by claiming stocks are short. Old trick, doesn’t work. Most people will update during Black Friday/Holiday season anyway.

I suppose if they can give it to selected tech bloggers worldwide (even to ones from sanctioned countries!) weeks before global release day, they have plenty of them stocked.

Those ain’t cherry pies and coffee that need to be served fresh and hot, iPhones can certainly wait🤣

Apple has officially jumped the shark with the iPhone 17 Pro lineup. Whoever signed off on those colors and that absurd camera plateau deserves a lifetime ban from design meetings. Let’s be real, those finishes look like they were pulled from the reject pile at a knock-off accessories kiosk. They’re not “premium,” they’re uninspired paint jobs wrapped in marketing fluff.

And that camera bump? Calling it a “bump” doesn’t even do it justice anymore. It’s a full-blown fivehead… a slab of glass and metal sticking out like a swollen tumor. Remember when phones were sleek? Portable? When you didn’t need a structural engineering degree to understand how the back of your phone balanced? Apple’s obsession with cramming in yet another half-millimeter of sensor has turned the back of their flagship into an architectural plateau.

Apple used to lead design. Now they just lead in figuring out how much ugly they can sell at a premium. The fivehead isn’t innovation, it’s desperation dressed up in anodized aluminum.

By the way, this is coming from someone who religiously upgraded every year - not 2025.

We choose to pick up our pre-ordered orange 17 Pros (512GB) this coming Monday - busy weekend away - and could have collected today.

Checking the online store last week suggested a few weeks' wait but today there's availability at every nearby physical store.

I know the last few years I have not preordered and have been able to get one day one if I choose.

Came here to ask about this. How do I know when a store has stock or not?

Yep, I didn't pre-order iPhone 8, SE2 and iPad Pro 11" each when they came out and instead went to my local Apple Store in Osaka (Japan) on release day and bought one there no problem at all. Was expecting to do the same this morning and went to the new Apple Store in Osaka Umeda but they had zero stock for customers who hadn't pre-ordered. was quite surprised (and disappointed!). The sales person said they won't have stock in stores for a while and recommended ordering online but there's a 3 week wait already...

Then you'd be incorrect given, for example the Pro Max 256G Orange for many appeared to show backordered, even right when the store opened for many.
Haven't heard about any of those orders being bumped up for filling, so that short stock "claim" seems to be true.

Interesting. The lowest storage model and “backordered”. Since it is being marketed to prosumer, I doubt it would be wise to choose 256GB just because of lower price: the issue is that it certainly has slower flash storage than beefier options.

Maybe those are still Apple’s tricks to lure people into higher priced models?

Pretty sure stocks will be ok in a week or so. They seem to do it every year
