iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 Pro pre-orders began last Friday at 5:00 a.m. Pacific Time, and soon after, shipping estimates for select models began slipping to late September or early October for some models.

If you weren't prepared to get up at an early hour or you haven't got round to pre-ordering for another reason, there's still a chance to get an iPhone 13 mini, iPhone 13, iPhone 13 Pro, or iPhone 13 Pro Max in your hands when they launch on Friday.

In the United States and other countries that have Apple retail stores, such as Canada, the United Kingdom, and Australia, many iPhone 13 models are still available for in-store pickup on Friday, September 24.

Even if a particular iPhone model isn't estimated to be delivered on launch day, it's still possible to reserve some versions for in-store pickup.

An iPhone 13 Pro in Silver with 128GB of storage, for example, is currently estimated to ship in 4-5 weeks on Apple's online store. However, the device is available for pickup on September 24 at multiple retail stores in several countries.

Once you proceed to the checkout and click the blue "Checkout" button, select "I'll pick it up," then choose a store location, pickup date, and an available 15-minute check-in window from the options.

If you will be picking up the iPhone personally, enter your phone number. If someone else will be arranging the pickup, enter his or her contact information. The person making the pickup must be carrying a valid photo ID.

Then, proceed with the checkout process as usual. Once payment has been made, wait until you receive a pickup notification email or text message by September 24 before picking up the iPhone. If you don't receive one, call the store.

Since the iPhone is paid for ahead of time, the store will hold the device in its back room until you arrive. Your order will be held for 14 days.

Of course, another option is to simply wait until Friday and walk into an Apple store, preferably right when they open. You may have to wait in line, but the queues have typically been shorter in recent years. Note that temperature checks and face masks may be required.

You can use the pickup tool on Apple's website on launch day to check if stores in your local area have stock, or call the store directly.

All in all, there are still a few days to ensure you get your new iPhone on launch day, even if you missed the pre-order rush. Just make sure to select which color, storage, and carrier combinations are still available for pick-up by September 24.

My current phone still works, there are no compelling new features or capabilities and Apples plan to start providing back doors to their devices, now suspended but not gone, has me questioning both their commitment to privacy and their willingness to resist government insistence to secretly provide a broader door. Reputation is a fragile thing, and once damaged it’s hard to repair. And for me it’s been seriously damaged. Saying it would only look for ‘X’ is meaningless because the ability would be there to look for more even if initially it did only look for that one thing.

iPhone 13 Mini for me.

I hated the XR for the 3 years that I owned it. It's thick, heavy, and hard to use because of its size.

The iPhone 13 Mini is better than the 12 Mini in every way and it improves the battery life which is what is prompting me to finally upgrade. I can't wait to go back to a phone that feels similar like the iPhone 5 on the hand.

I would: but apple still hasn't fixed the Apple Card Glitch for me... I've been on and off the phone with support for hours this weekend, but can't seem to get a competent person who knows how to properly escalate the issue.

I only think the big city areas might have extra stock. I checked (already have it ordered but) no iPhone pro max 256 in any color avail in 100 miles
Same. I pre-ordered the 256GB Max, but was considering switching to 512. Not seeing that any of the 12 stores around me. Just says “not available today.”

I had a look for a blue Mini in the UK and all my nearest Apple stores have it for Friday. Never seen that before. I believe Apple put in a significantly bigger order this year - perhaps that explains it.

they should move to every other year hardware updates. They have slowed innovation to a crawl. Saving my money for a new MBP, which hopefully has gone backwards to having ports and function keys.

They are wasting their time in DEIA committees and pronoun focus groups.

There's no reason to get impatient and settle for a new iPhone that isn't exactly what you want.
They are way too expensive for that. I prefer to wait and leave the initial inventory for those who really need it now or for some reason really want it ASAP! I used to do the pre-order ritual mania thing, and it was fun, but not anymore.

While I’ll still enjoy the excitement from others and agree that it’s indeed fun, rewarding and happy-hormones filling buying the latest tech, car, toy, etc whether needed or just as a reward splurge… I heard this week from a podcaster an interesting take on this.

Taking “the store” to its literal meaning: instead of buying and hoard stuff, let the store keep those things in there for you (i.e storage), for free, and you go only pay to take it when you absolutely need it. Else, it will be there, potentially indefinitely. Suddenly, your house will become quite big and full of free space, since the store is storing it all.

Nevertheless, fun times. Hope you all get the one you were aiming for… either now or whenever it comes in stock.

EDIT: typo, clumped paragraph

I hear that. Just by waiting a few weeks you can check out the models in the store, really think about it, read and watch reviews and when ready, go buy it like a normal person. This pre-order hype is ridiculous. Apple is REALLY good at creating this sense of urgency and making your current phone feel like an ancient piece of s4it that needs to be replaced ASAP, even though its one year old.

Having said that, I did reserve a 13 mini for saturday pick-up. :)

this is what puzzles me... both of my nearest Apple Stores still have every color and every storage capacity of iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 available for pick up on launch day.... how is that possible?

Mine too. I thought these things slipped day one shipping within 5 mins, as everyone claimed?! 🤔
