format an apple imac g3's hardrive how?

hello, I am wondering if any of you know how to format an apple imac g3 hardrive, as I don't have a clue, any help is greatly thanked apon.

Boot from your Mac OS X CD... choose Disk Utility from the menu when the installer starts... Format disk from the Erase... (NOTE: this will delete EVERYTHING on that disk, for ever...) quit Disk Utility and continue to install new OS... enjoy... 😉

if you are planning on installing OS X for the first time on this mac be sure to update your firmware before hand!!

you can them of the apple site rite? as I'm looking now and it seems it has them, why as well do i need to update the firmware?
