Dear all,

I am little lost with formats and schemes of the ssd in my MacBook Pro 15 inch 2018. It runs the latest version of macOS.

What is the default format of the ssd? Is it „APFS“ or „AFPS (Case-sensitive)“? Which one should I use?

And what is the default scheme? Is it „GUID Partition Map“? What are the other schemes good for?

Best regards,
Fabian

When you initialize a blank SSD, by bringing up the disk Utility, these are the settings that are already selected by default, just as shown in document linked by NoBoMac.

You can google most anything you’re not sure about and get the correct information.

I recommend that you DO NOT USE "case sensitive" unless you have a specific reason to do so.

You want it to be "case-INsensitive".

I read that some programs have issues with "APFS (Case-sensitive)". Since I did not find any benefits of case sensitivity I opted for "APFS".

Thanks all.
