Ok so I backed up my blu-ray today using Roxio's Toast 11 Titanium with Blu-Ray/HD plug-in. I saved the image to my hard drive since I don't have a spare blu-ray disc on hand. It saved it as .toast. I am unfamiliar with this format and would like to know what are the limitations and can I change it to .mp4 through handbrake or another app?

.toast is a disk image format, similar to an .iso. That is not a video, it is a copy of the disk. There are a few ways to work with Bluray disks on a Mac, but that is not one of them. Someone else will probably provide a link to one of those methods soon (I don't do it myself, so I haven't kept track of the information).
