Formatting My Book?

I need to format My Book, tried using Disk Utility, but got an error msg, "Couldn't unmount disk".
Any suggestions as to how I can get this done?

try restarting ur mac as my externals do that sometimes as they think a program is still using them and it wont unmount them

Some background task may be keeping a file open on the external. Rebooting the Mac will ensure that this is not the case.

Do you mean a WD My Book external hard drive?

With mine I have to format it by logging into it as the admin and doing it via there

Thats exactly what I mean, the WD My Book.
How do I log onto it as admin?
