Hey,

I have the latest Macbook Pro with the Retina.
I would like to format my Macbook Pro and to have it as I just received it. How can I do it? I tried inserting the OSX Sierra installation I have on my USB and it displays an X sign when I try to boot it. What can I do?

Thanks!

Restart the mac, and hold command r immediately after you hear the boot chime. Then you can reinstall from there without needing the USB.

What utility did you use to create the USB?

If you have the 2017 MBP, a standard 10.12.5 installer won't work. You would need to use the Internet Recovery install (as mentioned by Cergman) or you need to do a new download (10.12.6 was just released yesterday - I'm presuming they now have the new hardware drivers in 10.12.6). The new MBP's had a custom install of 10.12.5 since it was introduced after 10.12.5 was released.

If you're looking to go back to a fresh install of the custom 10.12.5 version, unless you have a backup copy taken right after you got your MBP, I think that will be difficult to do.
