Developers really need to come up with new business model. Subscription is something I would never consider for an email app. I would possibly consider one time fee but this model is unsustainable for the developer from what I heard.
Or maybe people don’t want to pay for certain things; such an an email client which can be had for free since the beginning of time on the internet.

Charging a subscription for an email client is pure hubris

It’s a really, really nice app and I’ve been using it since the first beta release. Its lack of support for scheduled sending and To-Do integration mean that it’s almost useless to me though. That’s not the dev’s fault; Google doesn’t provide those features through the API.

Subscriptions for apps like this (or weather apps) is just not a very good fit, and unfortunately I think developers are going to find this out the hard way.

I'm all for paying for software and I get that subscriptions work well for developers, but most consumers already have way too many subscriptions and they aren't looking to add any more.

Sure feels like we need a new business model...

It's nice that it's using the Gmail API but all the other features are not all that compelling or are already built in to the mail app. There also doesn't seem to be other features like a way to collab within a team like Spark.

Apps like these are doomed; it's very likely Apple's roadmap already includes those must-have features, and/or Apple will just imitate it after the fact. Seems like these kinds of apps/developers are hoping they'll be acquired, but Apple really only acquires companies with novel tech/patents or valuable IP.

I will say that Apple Mail is seriously due for some quality-of-life improvements.

Seems like they could have at least implemented something local like Apple’s send later function in Mail.

For that price I'd expect included iOS and iPad apps, plus advanced AI capabilities, plus daily free breakfast.
Yep, I don't get it, don't newcomer developers compare prices before offering a subscription?!
For $50 per year we can get Office365 incl. 6TB one-drive space, it includes the Outlook Email Client and all the Office Software + AI.

Comparing it to the whole O365 feature set, this Email Client should cost max. 25cent per month.

I was interested until I saw it was a subscription only. I’m sure it’s a great app, I’m just not interested in paying a subscription for an email client… That only works with one email provider and has no advanced capabilities.

You do pay a subscription for those and it's in the form of taxes.

We pay into pot for the smooth running of society. We do not pay taxes to breathe clean air. Regulations that reduce pollution or give us protected green lands are not a monthly subscription and are not privatised.

Don't excuses and boot licking corporations who would love to privatise every corner of our lives or charging through the nose what used to be cheap or free.

The rampant subscriptionification of all things simply transfers wealth from the masses to a tiny number of people. It's terrible in the long run, its extremely bad at scale, and will result in impoverished people when they are much older.

Basically, everything that is already bad about the system but 10X worse. People should be able to pay for something ONCE and then decide for themselves if they ever want to pay for an upgrade.
