In layman's terms, what do a board of directors actually do?

I thought they were just there to ensure if the CEO went on a mad one, he would be fired. Kind of like what the Queen is to the UK Prime Minister.

A Board of Directors are "employees" of the shareholders with a dotted line to the company. They provide outside guidance and oversight to various dealings of the company on behalf of the shareholders. They also keep the top execs in check.

Interesting... not to read too much into this, but it can't hurt to have someone who understands the financial ins and outs of heavy manufacturing around the world if you're getting into the car business.

Apple likely already manufactures more metal components per year than Boeing does for all its aircraft.

Riiiiiiiight

You'd think he said he was from Mars based on your reaction. lol. Just saying.

He can't have that opinion if he's black? Who cares if he black and if he's not, he can't speak on the issue or what?? Or maybe he is a she it really doesn't matter.

The Military Industrial Complex takeover of Apple is complete.
As a formidable manufacturer, it was only a matter of time before the military industrial complex would want to bring Apple into the fold.

Kevin Lynch with his too-unlucky-to-be-an-accident Flash, marked the intelligence community takeover of Apple. Any wonder he's in charge of the ultimate bio-tracker, the watch.
(Read how Adobe profiles all internet users with innocent sounding ad-trackers. Then remember this information is years out of date & figure out what they must be doing now.)

Apple publicly acknowledged its partnership with the intelligence community by announcing its participation in the NSA project with other tech companies.

Years earlier, all major silicon valley tech companies traded their customers' data for immunity from prosecution, should anyone try to sue them for handing it over to the government.
Cook and Apple have done their best to claw some of this back, implementing better privacy, so the intelligence community has to actually WORK to decrypt Apple customer data, as opposed to Microsoft et al and their open door policies. Not to mention content blockers, but any company that supplies a block list, must make its money supplying customer blocking data back to the companies they've blacklisted.

Apple is a major player now. The Arms industry is the largest industry on the planet and whether it is intelligence (sales & marketing) or manufacture, Apple is now a prime target.

I give Cook credit - although his hand is forced (if he wants to live longer than Jobs), he's doing a great job at holding back the flood.

Watch this space.

Based on history, when a black person is hired, it's usually a white person calling it a token hire, not someone of the same race
