ALL this hype, sure hope the girl doesn't bomb.
She was probably thinking about staying until she gets the bonus but got a "you start now or never" call from Tim.
Thats the tech story..Microsoft has 2 female execs at the top level. Google has 1 as well.
Facebook also has 1. And GM, IBM, HP, Yahoo, and Lockheed have them as CEOs. Where's that glass ceiling?
On its face, it's good news retail if finally getting a permanent leader. I only hope her plan isn't to "Burberry" up the Apple Stores the way Ron Johnson "Apple" upped J.C. Penny. I trust Ahrendts is by now well versed in the Apple brand, psyche, customer, and product not to make it something its not.
Why would she want to "burbery" up the apple brand/store? Did she "Liz claiborne" or " Lucky brand" up Burbery... Its interesting to note that her primary target while putting burberry in hypergrowth was "china" ..Her expertise is clearly going to focus on apple's retail business as it grows in china..Didnt TC say that they have plans to triple retail stores in China?
Why? I can't say as I'm not privy to her inner thoughts. Why did Ron Johnson want to "Apple" up, JC Penny? (I know the answer, it's a rhetorical question in case its not clear).
But, I would, say, yes, she did "Liz Claiborne" up Burberry. Prior to her arrival it was a boutique name. She licensed the name, got it into 3rd party retailers, and made the brand more accessible. Burberry needed all of that because it was becoming a stogy moribund brand. It's human nature for people to do what has worked for them before, hence, my hope she doesn't "Burberry" up Apple and has different ideas how to keep Apple Stores fresh.
Could it not be a possibility that that was precisely what the board over at burberry was looking to do when the went out and found someone that had a good strategy to propel the brand towards growth?
Apple has a "retail" strategy in place, as Tim Cook stated, in china it is to expand..they are looking to triple the retail footprint in china. The rest of the world is also getting plenty of new apple retail stores..With the "emerging" markets showing high double digit growth in many key apple products there is plenty of scope for apple retail to provide the sort of experience to those consumers that others in the developed markets have been quite used to. The way apple works, i'd be surprised if the head of retail stores can come up with a strategy to overhaul the stores without integrating with the larger apple ethos..thats just not how they work..While plenty of us think long and hard about her "vision" for re-shaping/refreshing the apple retail experience, her plan to execute apple's growth strategy for its retail stores may in fact be more important to apple's bottom line in the coming years as it tries to build upon the growth its products are having in emerging markets. Her work with Burberry especially in emerging markets is noteworthy, especially since many of the same markets will be the ones which make up a large portion of the growth apple's hardware is going to be seeing in coming years.
Oh lord. You are wildly blowing up a simple comment. Why so defensive?
Yours or Tim Cook's![]()
Probably because she's an attractive female.
Hasn't burberry always flourished even before she joined their company? I mean today people still go crazy over that signature burberry plaid. I have my doubts on how she's going to contribute to apple. I think this has to do with more of Apple trying to meet a certain census than bringing in someone that's right for the job.
So I take of that apple ended up paying her more than Burberry![]()
How much did they offer her in shares?? She was offered a 8 MILLION pound bonus to stay till June.http://www.theguardian.com/business/2014/apr/24/angela-ahrendts-start-date-apple-shares-burberry-investors
How much did they pay her to turn that down? Is Tim personally flying her over in his jet?
I guess she has been offered the same amount from apple + a bonus of 1,000,000 shares? + relocating fees from London to California?
