I found this little guy far from his tree!

Orange by mixedkid_2009, on Flickr

This has been a difficult topic. This picture doesn't really show how it is out of place according to the topic. As far as the picture itself, I'd like some of the bottom cropped off. There's too much blurred stuff distracting. I do like how the orange color is really the stand out color, and my eye is drawn to it. I would prefer it if it were more to the left and not centered.

Okay, I finally found a real nature in an unexpected place to add here. I chose to make this in black and white because the textures of the bricks showed up best that way.

an oldie, but it fits the topic pretty well ...

I finally got out to take some pictures today. It's been pretty rainy around here the last several days. I took this near the business 80 freeway near downtown Sacramento, California about a half mile from my house.

Here is my second contribution. Taken shortly after the tree/freeway picture. Again, I wish I had been able to get out a little later in the day. This would've been stunning with the sunset behind it. I took this on the American River Parkway just downstream from our house. The buildings are downtown Sacramento. You can just see the American River Parkway through the trees. Perhaps I'll get a chance to shoot these again before the Challenge time is up.

The first one has good potential. I would like to see a deeper green in the grass to create more contrast between it and the stark tree. I'm not sure what software you use for post processing, but if it has saturation controls, bring them up a bit.

What exposure setting did you use for the second? It suffers from the blown-out clouds in the sky. The framing is nice. You included the most prominent cloud in the sky and placed the angle of the road in the bottom right corner rather than sticking it in from the side or bottom.

Nice framing of an interesting subject. It appears to be a plant coming up through a keyhole in a door laying in the snow. How far off am I?
At first I wanted to see the plant more to the right because it is facing left, but the details to the right of it are important to the overall composition.

Thanks. I reshot this on a day with a bit better light, but it still didn't work at all. It just comes off as flat. Thanks for the comments. This is a difficult topic.

That's what makes it truly a "challenge"

I agree, it has been a difficult topic, but in a way, Axis is right, it is supposed to be a challenge! I went out looking for things to shoot but I've deleted the ones I took. In most of the pictures I had in mind the 'nature' was just a bunch of sticks because it's still winter. Doesn't make for an interesting picture when they're about 20' up! Added to that, the sky's mostly been a solid grey colour for about two months. Getting cabin fever!

The only real nature in unexpected places would be the houseplant in my den because I've usually killed them off by now. :) I think in the future, if the topic contains the word nature I'll wait until the landscape is a bit more interesting before voting for it. That doesn't help our friends 'down under' though, who have summer in winter so to speak!

Anyway, great interpretation Keleko!

Been away for awhile. We lost the hard drive on the iMac. Thankfully I used time machine and triple backup all photos. It took a while to replace the HD myself and get everything back to normal. It wasn't a one button restore but I can say that we did not lose a single piece of data. I also use the vault function in Aperture and that's what I ended up restoring photos from. Took a long time but everything came back. I can recommend using Time Machine and the Aperture Vaults. Worked for me.

Anyway...I'll try to squeeze one more in on this theme. It's a shot from the park again. Looking at it now I wish I had more of the clutter and metal fence in the shot. I think it's a bit too close in.

I like what you are going for here and it fits. A spring time photo might show more of nature trying to take back what man has made.

This is pretty interesting. I can't figure out exactly what it is and that makes it even more interesting. I might would crop out the top just a bit to remove the flare. I like the tone and gradation a lot.

I understand what you are getting at but I don't think it works with the theme. Without your info I'd have assumed the orange had just fallen straight from the tree.

I agree, as others have said, that this turned out to be a little more difficult topic then I expected it to be. I had ideas but none panned out. I'm surprised there weren't a few more still life type photos where folks used something from nature as a prop. I tried a few but I really stink at still life and staged type photos so none of them survived the first hack. Still it's been a good challenge and I'm glad it's back. I guess we will be starting the next one soon!

Ah man, darn. The tress is on the other side of the fence where it can't be seen, but I understand. I was trying to find something with out staging it though. Thanks for the criticism though. Ill try again on the next topic!
