I really like the diversity in the shots posted here, so many great images; Pets, Forest, H20, People, Architecture, etc.
Looking at how others compose their shots helps my mindset when I see similar situation.

Here is my fav wildlife shot taken this past July with the 55-250 kit lens, EXIF data in the photo.
In bright daylight that lens takes pretty decent shots, though here I had to dial ISO400 to get 1/125 @ f5.6....

btw, I'm sick at home with mild flu, so resting and loading/processing images.....all those things you can't seem to get done in day-day grind.

Cool shot. I thought it was the Pacific NW till I read it was in New Jersey. Looks like somewhere Pdxflint would shoot. Very pretty though. I might would darken it up just a little. Maybe with a polarizer or something.
Thanks... maybe next time I get up there ( most likely in the summer) i'll try a polarizer. Here's one for today , at the Cloisters in NYC , 2 summers ago.

OK, so the shot would probably brighter, sharper and less noisy with a $6k lens but I think it's a great picture. For me it's perfectly composed and you got a great shot of the deer. A very classic wildlife shot. You must've still been pretty close to get this even with the 55-250.

Hope you're over the flu. Good job staying home. I wish more people would do that so they wouldn't spread the bugs.

If you happen to use Aperture 3 you could also try the polarizer brush. It works pretty well for knocking down bright sunlight.

I like this one because it ended up being a candid photo. I was working on composition with the glass and acorns, and my kitten was curious of what I was doing. I was using my iPhone 4 for testing out the idea, and when he wandered up to the glass I took this picture. When I converted it to sepia it just really stood out to me. This ended up being my picture of the day for my 365 Project.

Thx Jeff, I'd even be happy with a $2.5k lens, the 70-200 L MkII for these shots in the future...

Yes, I saw the deer in our front yard wildflower field, walked barefoot along the driveway so slowly to get close for this shot, at the very end of the driveway I spotted him/her hidden among the wildflowers, I was about 40-50 feet away.
(this is latest Google map image, abound May-2010, the wildflowers not up)

another wild critter, a fox caught June-2010 in our backyard with same lens, 55-250 kit.
