Hi Guys
Had my iPhone a few days now but I am totally baffled by the text messaging feture. It seems to be in a conversational mode. This is all well and good but I can't figure out how to forward a text message. Can someone help me on this. Thanks

Mabye I am missing something here, but I have always been able to forward a text on my other phones and everyone I know can do the same on theirs.

You can't forward text messages with the iPhone. This is just one of the many things that the iPhone can't do yet many other lowly phones can. We just live with it because we know the iPhone is awesome (except for those missing features).

Can't forward sms on the iPhone. Why? Because Steve decided we don't need to be able to forward sms.

If you jailbreak your phone and install iRealsms, you can do everything you can on other phones, including forward sms

Not sure I like the sound of jailbreaking my phone, I guess I'll have to get by without this facility. When I show my mates at work my iphone and tell them "Its the best phone in the world" I am going to feel a 1st class berk when they ask me to forward a text to them.

no one has to know
just type out the text yourself
this is a secret only iPhone owners can know

Well, I needed to fwd an SMS one time because my friend sent me directions to a restaurant which I needed to send to my other friend but couldn't. I couldn't reach my friend who sent me the SMS and my other friend without directions was in a meeting. I had to find a pen and paper to write down the directions and then typed a new SMS to send. That was such an inconvenience!

I get loads of jokes via SMS and cant forward them on. Not my biggest gripe but one that could easily be implemented. I tried the iRealSMS trial, it works well but I dont think I'd pay for it. Not just to forward jokes.

Message forwarding is a big thing outside of the US. Also message status.

Most carriers in europe and the rest of the world give you an SMS status after you sent it. The phone tells you if the SMS you sent has been delivered, which is a great feature I hope Apple adds into the iPhone along with SMS forwarding

I have never needed to forward a text message. Text messaging to me is very fluid. If I want to forward something important, I send a e-mail. If someone has a phone with SMS and no e-mail, they don't deserve my time. :) (Just kidding).

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 2_1 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/525.18.1 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/3.1.1 Mobile/5F136 Safari/525.20)

really think about jailbreaking my phone for this feature and other cool stuff. Some of the screenshots on MR of jailbroken phones are awesome!

Yes I do need it that much.
Everyone I know forward their jokes to their friends. Since I have had the iphone I have missed this facility badly. A couple of my friends have said they would not get an iphone if you cannot forward jokes.
I can't believe that you do not do this. I certainly could not recommend this phone to anyone who likes to send and recieve jokes.
I guess we must be different me and you.

if they would just implement copy and paste, you could just copy the text and paste it into a new sms...almost as good as forwarding the message! but alas, we still do not have copy and paste.

convinced a friend of mine to go with the iphone instead of waiting for the blackberry bold and the inability to forward sms messages has been a gripe for him. That and being able to mark an SMS message as unread.

I like not being able to forward, it means people have stopped forwarding stupid pointless jokes to me!

Hi

Jailbroken iphone 3g... 3.1.2....here

Nice hint... I have not tried iRealSMS... but I do use BiteSMS and I love it.

I dont think biteSMS does forwarding SMS.... You can correct me if I'm wrong....

My question is... can i install/run/keep iRealSMS and biteSMS ... or would they conflict with each other... for the default SMS app... can i use both without any problems :)

I do want the call forwarding option... but I'm so used to biteSMS .. dont wana get rid of alltogether.

Thanks
