Never had this issue with any of my 3 iPod touches, 1G, 2G and 3G. My network hasn't changed for years and the encryption was always WPA2. Both the 2G and 3G were on iOS 4. I have to call BS on this because lots of my friends have iPod touches on iOS 4 and none of them have problems.

As mentioned in the post above mine, it is NOT BS. There are plenty of reports. I too was experiencing the issue and it was resolved by changing a network settings on the device and rebooting it.
Not everybody experiences it. Those who have resolved it have done so in a variety of methods. The symptom (dramatic battery drain) is the same, but the solution seems to vary.
I have WEP and it works fine for me. I am using a westell router from 2004 which is as solid as a rock and I am not giving it up. The reason I have WEP is because I still want to use the internet with my Nintendo DS and the DS does not support WPA or higher.
I do not have the battery drain issue, the only thing I have push notifications on for is one texting app. I don't use push notifications for mail. I prefer to read my mail at my computer. I have location services on.
