not even going to read the last two pages, go to the apple store and they'll look up the serial number on the macbook, see who it was sold to and notify the owner... I don't think anyone files anything with police now days because anyone who found something now days will more than likely keep it rather than try to return it to the original owner... that's just how the world is now days

You didnt even have to read the last two pages, the last post would've helped ya, because its been over, at least read the most recent post in threads :D

YES! I did find the owner....I went into an Apple Store closest to my home and park where I found it, and gave it to the Apple guys....THANKFULLY, the owner had apple care and her name and numbers were all in the computer....My wife, and apple genious in myself then gave her a ring, and she came to the store like a lightening bolt, never saw a person smile as big as she did

- It's great to hear stories like this. :) I'm glad you found her.
But I'm curious: did it take 28 days to find her or is it just your post that is a bit delayed? :p

Thanks, my old lady helped me too! I put myself in the owners shoes, I'd cry if I lost my MB.

LOL, I didn't ask her this unforotunately

See above answer

To the other man above, regarding if it was stolen by an amateur....actually, the girl herself lost it and left it there....she had her MB and her dog with her, her dog ran off, so she ran off after it. She then totally forgot to go back and get her MB off the bench/stool/sitting spot....silly mistake, but I think catching her dog made her forget her MB.

Well case closed all, owner found, MB back in the hands of a happy MacHEAD. All is right with the world! :D

Excellent, a happy ending. Nicely done dude :)

I'm not sure why there is a question of what to do. You find something valuable, you turn it into the police. If the owner doesn't show up to claim it in x number of months (it varies), it is yours.

That’s not the case in all jurisdictions, though you can ask if it is or whether it can be on request.

Where I live, police will auction off unclaimed property with revenue presumably going to the state (and themselves). This seems to create an incentive to not make any effort to find the owner (which kind of goes without saying), and therefore most people don’t hand stuff into police unless it’s got identifying information like a wallet.

I think it’s better to do as much as you can yourself before using police as a last resort. it’s stupid and shouldn’t be that way, but then this is police we’re talking about!
