Hey all!

I found an Apple Watch 3 38mm on the sidewalk with a broken screen.
No idea if it works, is locked, etc.and don’t have a charger to see if it even powers on.

Worth a tinker or just put it on eBay for parts only?

Screens are $115-$160 depending on the size.. I'd find out if it even works or activation locked before trying to fix it..
Guess finding out of it works/is locked would require purchasing a charger?

To be honest, I‘d take it to a lost and found office for example.
If it was mine and I had lost it while jogging or something like that, I‘d be happy if I got it back somehow.
I’m familiar with lost and found at airports, schools, businesses, etc. but I’m not aware of any place locally that I would take something found on the sidewalk...?

Or you could borrow one from someone who has an Apple watch. If the watch is still on the owners "find my" list you may get an email that you could contact the owner and see if he wants the watch back or maybe he doesn't want it anymore and will remove the activation lock for you. The watch is useless if it's activation locked anyway..

Update:

Will not charge/power on and nothing shows up on the screen. Not sure if the initial picture did the extent of the screen damage justice. Removed the screen (which collapsed into 3 pieces) to see if there was a visible serial number or identifier inside.
All I saw was the battery and Taptic Engine
It’s now resting peacefully in my garbage can.

Night gathers, and now my watch begins. It shall not end until my destruction.

And now his watch has ended.

The serial number is printed on the back of the watch, you realize?

That depends on the model. On newer models it's engraved inside one of the two watch band slots.

Someone else mentioned that "you can get an email" that allows you to contact the owner. Specifically, that could happen if the Watch was put in Lost Mode and the owner chose to share that information on the Lost Mode screen. However, with a broken display that's a little hard to do.

Considering the cost of getting a working display in order to learn whether someone has the thing in Lost Mode and has shared their personal info... Yeah, the OP was probably right to toss the thing in the trash.

There’s no serial number on the back, as you can see in the picture in the first post.
My mistake. I thought the printing on the right-hand side of the picture was the serial number (I know the original watch "series 0" had its serial number there). I played with the contrast and brightness on your picture and could see it instead said "GPS - WR 50m" or something similar.
