The other day I discovered that playing embedded mp3 audio and podcast, with the help of HTML5, continue to playback even while browsing other applications and web pages. Though primitive in nature, this is surely an oversight on Apples part. To turn the audio off you must either begin to play audio from another source within the iPad or return to the original browser and tap the pause icon. Online music services need to hop on this pony quickly. Multitasking Lives!

Some other tips and easter eggs are in the vid as well.

How so? I certainly cannot do this on iPhone and HTML5 is just starting to be embraced by websites. If you watch the video you'll see that the audio is being played from within Safari, not the iPod.

I believe this is how the ESPN Radio app achieves background audio.

Wunderradio on the iPhone uses this method to play audio in the background. That was 2 years ago.

Well worth the $3 for ease of use IMHO. :)

True. Thanks for the tip but this has to be the first time it possible to do so through Safari, as the iPhone loads the QuickTime player.

I surf on Safari all the time with background music from the iPod app, or from ESPN and Wondur Radio... Not sure how this is new? As stated, it's been this way for a long time.

You're really persistent about that, aren't you? This has been possible since background Safari tasks were enabled in the iPhone OS. As you've been told before, it's been quite some time. As has also been noted, Wunderradio and other apps (such as Emergency Radio) have been streaming background audio for a long time. Those processes use iPhone to load the Quicktime player as well.
