I was driving this afternoon and passed what looked to be an iPad lying face down on the highway. I quickly turned around and jumped out of the car and picked it up. It was in fact a 1st generation iPad. It was completely damaged though. But it was still all in one piece. All components were there. Just a shattered screen, other than that it was ok, I mean it obviously had been run over multiple times but I thought I would try and plug it in. Didn't turn on. Not sure what I can do with it except maybe use the parts (if they even work). Just wanted to share this story...how often do you find an iPad just lying on the road? Haha

I hate when I accidentally throw my iPad out the window when driving on the highway ... haha

You could probably take it to the apple store and get an out of warranty replacement for significantly less than new, then keep it/sell it.

Found a G1 iPad in a Dodo Case laying on the sidewalk about a year ago. It look as though a car had run over it a couple of times. The screen was pristine but the back was caved in. Took it home to see if it would charge or boot, which it did not. Thought I'd send it in to iResq to see if they can salvage it, no luck. The guy said in an e-mail that parts and labor would pretty much equal a refurbished G1 iPad.

Someone got frustrated with their iPad

There is a pretty good chance it was a brick BEFORE it got tossed out the car window.....Might be worth taking in, but I wouldn't hold out much hope for it's resurrection.

How about they laid their iPad on top of their vehicle when loading the car and forgot it was there. The laws of physics took over from there.

Imagine if the owner opened it up, disconnected the power port and screen and left it on to then track it.....

Take it into Apple and see if they will give you a discount when buying a new iPad. I know they do that with iPods. It's part of their recycling program I believe.

I bet somebody probably just threw it right out of the windows. That used to happen all the time with vintage phones.

Just BROKE UP with girlfriend and the iPad was full of her pictures :D

Apparently, leaving coffee on the roof of your car and driving is old school. New fashion (and trend) calls for an iPad instead.

Sadly...

I did this a couple days after I got my iPad. I turned out of my street and saw something fall off the roof of the car. I stopped and ran back and grabbed it fearing the worst, but the Incase sleeve did the trick!

My thoughts are telling me that the iPad may have been stolen, but the user was clever enough to have FindMyiPad turned on, they either remote locked or wiped it and the thieves seeing it as now useless, threw it out the window...

Just my guess at what may have gone down.

Why don't you go dig through some trash and while your at it. The 1st gen iPad deserves to be thrown out on the freeway and run over multiple times, it's ancient.

Did it look anything like this?
