Found Macbook - Best way to find owner?

If you do decide to keep it make sure you do not use the hard drive in it. It could contain illegal stuff even if you do not see it. If there was ever anything bad like that on there ever the police might be able to find it. I would take it to the police and see if they find the owner. If they don't you get to keep it. But still get a new hard drive for it if you keep it after the police give it back. Then get rid of the original HD using a method of data distruction.

I recommend:

1. 35 pass secure erase (use disk utility)
2. Smash or scrape off the chips with screwdriver of the logic board on the bottom then trash the parts on different days at different locations (restaurants, parks and public restrooms)
3. Take it apart and throw the platters around like frisbees on concrete or similar rough surface
4. Throw the platters away on different days at different locations (restaurants, parks or public restrooms)

But do not just throw the platters out the window of your car as this is littering.

Ring/bring it into Apple because they can do a serial search. I found an iPhone and I did that and I just had to send it into Apple for them to return it to the person.

Hi everybody this is a long shot but here goes I lost my black macbook like four years ago around this time I wasn't paying attention and left it on top of my car n I guess drove around I went looking for it everywhere but at that time apple couldn't help me because no one had stolen it so no need for tracking it was just on the side of the road and I loved that computer if anyone has an information to get in touch with this nuts guy I would really appreciate it because i'm really hoping its mine or if you see this nutzz please send me an email ..at kmbonesx3@aol.com ...patiently waiting ..Kristin Miller

If you are serious about your plea, then give some information about what city your lost it in...or at least what country.

The chances of you finding a laptop you lost in 2007 are pretty slim. Why did you wait until now to post? And in a thread about a laptop that was found on the side of the road in the summer of 2009???
