Four Apple Stores in the U.S. Are Moving This Month

Four of Apple's retail stores in the U.S. are moving this month, although all of them will only be a short distance from their existing locations.

Apple Queens Center in Elmhurst, New York already moved to a temporary location in the shopping mall on Friday, July 17 while the existing store is remodeled. Apple did not indicate when the existing store will reopen.

Apple Renaissance at Colony Park in Ridgeland, Mississippi is moving to a new spot within the same shopping center on Friday, July 24 at 10 a.m. local time. Apple's new storefront will be located right in front of the Show Fountain.

Apple Briarwood in Ann Arbor, Michigan will be relocating to a new space at the mall on Friday, July 31 at 10 a.m. local time. The entrance to the new, larger store will be in front of The Lawn, a new outdoor space at the mall.

Also on July 31 at 10 a.m. local time, Apple The Promenade Shops at Briargate in Colorado Springs, Colorado is moving six doors down to the left.

Malls seem to be dying a slow and painful death. I recently visited a mall that I went to a lot in the 2010s and it was dead. I wonder when Apple will decide to just close up shop in all malls and leave the independently standing stores there.

Presumably it’s all about individual store performance and available real estate… highly doubt there will be a blanket decision to simply “close all mall stores” anytime soon.

While lots of malls are dying, plenty of other malls still have substantial foot traffic.

They are dying for a lot of reasons. Online shopping, home delivery, astronomical mall prices, teenagers, transients, and homeless people hanging around them. Parking lots that are too difficult to 'police' and keep safe. Mall management has rules of operation that often make it difficult for a store to stay in business, and of course, the economy.

The indoor mall in my area was closed and leveled to the ground, to be replaced by some sort of self-sustaining mini-village. That has yet to materialize. The outdoor mall was leveled and rebuilt about 8 years ago, maybe. It does pretty well, but a number of stores have left and been replaced by other stores. Books-a-Million, Bed Bath & Beyond, and a few others closed, but overall, the outdoor mall is very successful.

I'm curious about updates with South Coast Plaza new location moving in Costa Mesa / Orange County southern CA

The construction walls are huge since they took over major portion of entire 1st floor section

I’ve always been curious as to how they do these store "moves"... Like.. They do just pack up the inventory from the old store the night it closes and wheels it down to the new store? Ship all new inventory to the new store, and ship all new inventory back to distribution from the old store..

Notably absent is the store that had a union contract specifically mentioning moving to nearby locations. Complete coincidence, of course.

Apple Stores have the worst experience, it's crazy.

The Colorado Springs store move makes sense. It’s always crowded during the day. They’re moving into a space with probably twice the room and a bigger part of the parking lot. It’s a nightmare right now.

The Memorial City Mall in Houston is doing great and the Apple Store is crowded when I go but they have enough help I never have to wait more then 5 minutes.
