Don't think so, if you magnify the picture you can see holes in the bottom, now why should there be holes in a protective casing.
And, how thick is the casing, 0.1 mm, you just can't see a casing around it.
its a protective tape for metal parts. Similarly to protective tape on car assembly parts. Its taken later before shipping.

Last quarter Apple sold an average of 500,000 iPhones... every day.

But it was reported that it takes a total of 24 hours to make one iPhone.

So how many workers does Foxconn need to manufacture at that pace?

Oh, that one's very easy math, about primary school grade: You sell 500'000 units per day and one unit takes 24 hours to produce (for the sake of simplicity we assume for one person).

So you need exactly 500'000 cheap workers - solved!

;)

Oh here's a simple logic, just because you hire two people to do the same thing doesn't make it twice as fast.

So you'll need like 500,000 * (some number) workers.

;)

There won't be any iPad event in April, we haven't seen any parts leak out yet.:D
Might be cause Cook is doubling down on secrecy...

;)

No, you're probably right. Still, new iPad + iOS 7 in May, new iPhone at WWDC, seems legit!

If they're only hiring now, I doubt that they'll be at full production speed until mid May at least to allow for training, snagging the production lines etc. That doesn't allow much time to build up a decent stock for shipping to the launch countries in June. That also doesn't allow much for the actual shipping time - even if using air freight, its probably a week or so to get decent stock to the warehouses. How much stock were they rumoured to have when launching the iPhone 5? Given silence on iOS and the logistics, I'd say that August/Sept launch is likely unless launch is limited to the US.

Considering Foxconn was rumored to have laid off workers a simple re-hire would probably do away with the training part.

No wonder Foxconn is on a hiring spree...

Right.

Where in the world are you getting these numbers??

Also, iPhone 5S will be almost identical to iPhone 5. Yield will rise since is just a re-hash, not a new phone.

:apple:

But I thought we just heard Foxconn was laying people off and sales were down due to weak iPhone demand. Now they're on a hiring spree because of the iPhone?

May I remind you that this is a rumor site. You should not take anything reported as being the truth.

After owning all versions of the iPhone - will be holding off on the 5S. Apple really needs a drastic re-design/interface change and larger screen. I love my iPhone but come on already. Anyone that denies it is just lying to themselves at this point. I prefer not to switch to Android but what other option is there?

iOS - the same since it first came out and it's showing it's age. :(

Possibly, though depends on whether those personnel laid off are available. Am sure plenty of competitors will have jumped at the chance to employ trained production line workers.

The rumor does not make sense to me. Foxconn is hiring workers to assemble iPhone 5S? And what are they going to do with the workers who assembled iPhone 5? Fire them? Is this how it works in China?

If you have lots of dough just buy a new android phone off Contract and play with it. If you don't have lots of dough, do the same but return it within the trial period.

Lots of articles came out after the ABC Nightline story.

Here's one: http://theweek.com/article/index/224743/what-it-takes-to-make-an-iphone-by-the-numbers

Even if it's just a re-hash... the same processes will be used. Every iPhone is handmade... with hundreds of hands needed to make a single iPhone.

Even more shocking... it takes 5 days to make one iPad...

It just looks like protective tape you see on all sort of electronics during manufacturing/assembly [?]

Yes, and that's why I said it is not a protective Casing as Peace said

Yes, see comment above.

If you look closely you can see it has a hole for a 30 pin connector so it either a 4 or 4S.

Didn't realise this but you're right.

Foxconn

This is more interesting to read.

Since foxconn handles all sorts of clients anyway, whats stopping anyone from sneaking over and using these same modified parts in say Wii U, or a PC, something Apple only has on their designs ? Since there's as least some employes not only who work on Apple at any one place, I do not see why this wouldn't easily work.

Just don't tell anyone. And as long as the serial numbers and everything is different, how would they know?

Stupid report.

Foxconn, as all other manufactorers in China, has high staff turnover and hires new staff every day.
