odds are the release will be more of a ip4s variant rather than the sexy ip5 rendered in rumors and vapor dreams

What's your point?

Stephane is the French version of Stephen/Steven, just like Andrea is the Italian version of Andrew. Michel is the French version of Michael, Miguel is Spanish, and Mikhail is Russian. Same: John (English) = Jean (French) = Ivan (Russian) = Juan (Spanish) = Giovanni (Italian).

Different languages have different ways of spelling names. Get it now?

For some reason, everyone in this thread seems to be unified & friendly.

I actually really really like it!!! <3

Those aren't facts, they're idle speculation. Again, your "facts" are no better than anyone else's guesses and if you do happen to be right, it'll be out of sheer luck.

Facts would be links to Apple personnel making statements or press releases.

Actually the facts are that Apple said a major product transition would occur before the end of the quarter, which is where I derived my information..

Here is the French IPhone 5. C'est magnifique!! :p

It has 9 chips :D

What CFO Peter Oppenheimer stated was there would be a product transition with a material impact to Q4. He did not state that the product announcement would be made in Q4; as a Fortune 500 CFO, he has all the skills at making nebulous statements and he's certainly not going to insinuate when the next product announcement would be.

There are material impacts to Apple's bottom line even in the pre-announcement period as they ramp up production and accumulate inventory before the actual release date.

Let's say Apple assembles 2 million iPhones at an average sales price of $650, yet doesn't ship a single unit. That's $1.3 billion in inventory they are sitting on. That has a material impact to their balance sheet even though they haven't recorded a single sale.

True, well stated. The event should still be soon though, by the end of September.

Because the world cares about other things than the iPhone 5, and if somebody urgently needs an high-end smartphone, I think the SGS2 is one of the best choices that can be made.

Not sure that anyone NEEDS a smartphone in general. He's just stirring the pot. He was never going to buy an iPhone 5 anyway.

Care to apologize to me now ? :D

Don't propagate the hype! You'll be responsible for the deception that follows (and if you do spread the hype, please don't whine about the deception that follows).

Hm, novice idea: isn't France a day ahead of America? So then the 15th would be our 14th, right?

Because they think Apple will read this and care, and then put the phone out early. He's gonna buy the iPhone 5. Just wants to stir the pot by saying he will jump ship if it's not out by day X.

One thing that makes apple such a great company is that they focus their work around what they want to do, as opposed to trying to figure out what people are asking for, and what there competitors are doing.

Apple has set themselves to push boundaries (mouse, trackpad, newton, all in ones, bunch of other stuff), they don't follow and their ideology is if it make it simple, make it work, make it enjoyable.

They will however pay attention if there are big faults issues or problems however. But they could care less about the core and base part of their products.

Theres no new phone until january. Apple just cant handle the sudden news of jobs' departure. Too much pressure.

He never said the iphone will launch on the 15th october, he said it should be available in orange stores by the 15th october

So if it's the 15th in France, wouldn't it be earlier in the US?

Put me down for got tired of waiting for iphone and went to android. I love both OS but I have to admit Android is getting better.

Why would you buy an Android now, when you've waited this long? There's only a couple weeks left.

If the iPhone 5 is not a major update, I'm going to be very disappointed.

If you expect an i4s, you won't be disappointed, and you'll be thrilled if it is an i5. If you expect an i5, and get an i4s, you'll be crushed. Based on history, I think it's wiser to expect an i4s.

There could be multiple obvious reasons, starting with you need a phone now vs "a couple weeks". Just like with anything in the tech industry, if you wait for the next latest and greatest, you'll never end up buying anything. You've got to pull the trigger at some point. Although personally, I'd have gotten an i4 if I was in that situation. :) I really don't expect much out of the i4s. Certainly nothing to break an EFT on an i4 for.
