The Frank Ocean ignorance is disturbing as all hell... Who are you people?
Old people. For a lot of people, deep immersion into pop music happens young, but eventually leads to saturation, leading to oversturation, and after a few decades of that, the sameness of it all become obvious, gets annoying & offensive, til all you find stimulating are single odd pieces of things, maybe a tiny fragment of something, some passage containing something brilliant the composer wrote, and all the pieces are there, and you can hear what it's supposed to be doing, but no one playing it is hearing it, because none are putting the pieces together, so you spend 7 years listening through nothing but hundreds of performances of Ravels Daphne & Chloe looking for one that gets those 5 measures in Suite No.1 just right, and the endless line of fresh faced kids warbling on about their profound life experiences regarding love, money and lamborghinis just doesn't stand a chance of breaking into your insanity.

No clue what you're saying.

It's not just 'old people' that don't know who certain artists are, it's everyone.

I could say an artist like 'Lily Allen'. If you're in the UK you probably know who she is. If you live in the US, you probably don't.

George Strait? Probably haven't heard of him if you're not into country music.
Drake? Probably haven't heard of him if you're not into rap.
Psy? Never heard of him until that one song Gangnam Style became popular in America. If you were in Korea, you'd think anyone was nuts who never heard him.
Ludovico Einaudi? You know him if you're into classical music.
Frank Ocean? Never heard of him. What is his music style?

Everyone's tastes are different and evolve with age. Some people love dancing and want peppy upbeat songs to dance to. Some people want to have music in the background to study with. Some people want to have music reflect their lives and be more 'real'. Some people want to get away from the world and have fantasy music.

Many people change their musical styles depending on what they're doing or their mood. Many others don't care about music at all.

It's so odd to judge others on who they haven't heard.

Dear Apple,

The name of the album is Blond.

When I was growing up, I could walk into any store, buy the CD, and play it on any CD player.

This exclusive business has to stop. Until it does, I'll continue to do what I'm doing to acquire an album. In my world, there's no such things as exclusive.

I was writing for a specific audience. Him. He asked who could possibly not know who this pop star is. Since I don't, I wrote specifically from my point of view, taking him into just one (mine) of the many possible ways one can be completely, deeply into music their entire lives and yet have no idea or interest in who the flavor of the week and their totally new, not derivative at all, hit album, and why & how oddly musical interests can progress, from the top40 rotation. Given his incredulity, I can only assume he was very young, in contrast to whom someone like me would seem very, very, old. Hence, old people.

The 17-track album was originally set to release on August 5, but Ocean and his teamed pushed back the release once the news was out to maintain the element of surprise
Hmm, because the "element of surprise" in releasing an album, exclusively on one service, is something I consider when I'm shopping for music.

I might be in the minority here, but after giving "blond" a few listens, I think it's a fantastic follow up to "Channel Orange."

Just my $.02 cents.

He's so awesome, nobody's ever heard of him.
I don't really get the fall off the radar comment. He hasn't put an album out in 4 years and this album was highly anticipated. He isn't the kind of artist who is going to have one song on the radio and never be heard of again

Sounds like weak justification for piracy tbh. But you do you boo

Brittany Spears??

One hit wonder, nothing to see here unless you're 14 years old. Will fall off the radar in a year or so.

That was terribly ignorant. He's a million times better than the old person music you listen to like ACDC or that garbage. Look I can make ignorant statements too. He's a phenomenal artist. I'm in my 30's by the way.

32 years old here and a big fan of Frank Ocean. He's a very talented R&B producer/singer/songwriter. His debut album in 2012 was so good that 4 years later, he is still able to garner so much interest in a new release. I will also add that I am generally not a big fan of R&B music, and I most CERTAINLY am not a pop music fan, so that should at least say a little about whether Frank Ocean is worth giving a listen to. I'm not going to automatically give him a pass on this latest release and give Blond the classic Pitchfork 9.8 rating just to prove my street cred, and so far, it's not as outwardly appealing as Channel Orange was, but it seems to have a fair amount of good sounds so far.

Oh and by the 5th or 6th one, the Billy Ocean jokes got old (actually, the 1st one was lame).

edit- Also want to add that I can imagine piracy increasing due to exclusive releases, even being that Apple offers the album for direct purchase on iTunes. I already pay a monthly subscription for Spotify, so there's no way in hell i'm going to give iTunes the equivalent of a month's Spotify subscription for an early listen to an album. You can say that eventually I will end up having paid for it once it hits Spotify, but if you're going by streaming services' pay schedules, every track I play from now until whenever that is, SHOULD be adding pennies to the bank.

It's stylized as "blond" but the album name is "blonde"

It's available for purchase from iTunes for $9.99. It's not only limited to Apple Music.

And this.
As long as it is possible to be purchased through iTunes Store, I don't care even a bit about those exclusive craps.

And they want to keep such an "element of surprise" even after releasing information which the album will be sold in August 5.

Wait, could anyone elaborate me which "surprise" he would like to bring to us? Oh, surprise that Spotify user should wait quite a while before can listen to his album? o_O

LOL!

Go back into your hole buddy.
LOL--at least I'm not the one listening to Billy Ocean.
