Hi there. After 2 years my Magsafe connector has almost stopped working. This was sudden. I have looked up my problem on the Apple website and on this page they say that I might be eligible for a free replacement charger.

This is definitely a design fault, as I have been very careful with the charger.

In my case, the white plastic of the cable hasn't completely separated from the cable, but it is breaking, and the cable only works when bent back, presumably so the wire inside connects.

If I take this to a Apple Authorised Repair Shop (no geniuses in Portugal), what are the chances they replace this for free?

If they don't just call Apple and have them exchange it. When I did it over the phone they sent me a replacement and a box to ship the malfunctioning unit back.

I phoned them and they said to take it tomorrow to a Service Center, where they would get me a new one. Hope they do, as my battery needs charging!

Brought my computer to the Apple Service shop. The guy there was great, and offered to give me a new adapter (L type) and to swap my battery out while he was at it (On OSX I was getting the Service Battery sign).

The best part - in Portugal there is a law that provides minimum 2 years guaranty for electronics, so although my laptop is 18 months old, the changes will all be free.
