iPod touch Free 3.0 for recent touch purchase?

I bought an ipod touch 4 days before the announcement as a gift, it hasn't been opened yet so I cant try this. Will it get a free upgrade to 3.0? or should i return it?

You have to pay for the upgrade. It won't be free until probably September when new iPods come out, and then it will be included in new iPods.
