To stop crashes: Remove app from iPad and re-download. Mine crashed every few minutes until I did this, and now crashes never. There was note about this on the 1.02 release of the app, but who reads the READ ME notes? I don't.

App works well now, but the content is still trash. Hope they fix that.

I was interested in the The Daily - and reading it daily - until last week when several pieces in the SAME issue were very insulting to people who hold a different viewpoint than the writer. Reading a publication that welcomes all political perspectives and world views would be very welcome and refreshing. But, The Daily lost me by publishing pieces by writers with no sense of propriety. I don't want to waste my time anymore on it.

EDIT: Even if I were still reading it, it was laborious to skip the sections your aren't interested in. They should have added toggles so the reader could turn off Gossip, for instance.

What pieces are you referring to?

Just because Apple puts a shinny bow on the news, doesn't make it a must have app. News is like porn...If you want to pay for you can. You can also get it for free. I prefer the NY times and USA Today.

I downloaded this 2 days ago. I removed it last night. If I can't even access it on a consistent basis (read: crashes) during the trial period, I'm sure as hell not paying for it. I like the idea and design... it just needs some major work as it is.

Not my experience. It has not crashed once, neither with v1.0.0 and v1.0.2 (uninstall previous version and download latest).

Umm, it's Fox News in glamour magazine threads. I would expect nothing short of condescension, lies, and the big-business/conservative meme of the moment from them.

I gave it an honest try, but, to be frank there is nothing there I can't get elsewhere, albiet without the slick (if crashy) interface. Also, I can see some of Rupert's propaganda poking through in it.

The rumor of it being released today was wrong from the start. There was no GM release of the beta yet. That will likely come this week, probably towards the end now.

The Daily crashes every time i use it...every time multiple times.

Did you delete the app from the iPad and than install the updated version?

The original version constantly crashed, couldn't even flip a page without crash. The update fixed that (but the release notes say you have to delete the existing app before installing the update) - didn't crash a single time since than.

Glad the free period got extended - since due to the crashes a couldn't use it much until I installed the update.

Sounds like the man you most likely voted into the White except, remove conservative with "liberal".

Hot Damn! When did the Times start offering free porn?

Missed opportunity

I like some of the content they provide and I almost think I can skip past their Murdoch/Fox leaning editorials, almost, but I really think they missed an opportunity to take advantage of the true potential of the medium.

If you're an editorial writer for the print edition of the WSJ, you can't provide a link to backup the factual basis of the claims you're making. But here you can. Use the power of the internet and linking to provide backup for your statements. If you think you have better ideas, great, prove it by letting me see your sources. For example, if you want to assert something like, "The American people overwhelmingly want us to cut spending," provide a link to that statement. Prove it. Don't just keep stating it over and over and over hoping that I'll just take your word for it.

Not sure if I'll subscribe once we have to pay. Someone mentioned here the USA Today iPad app. I should go back and check that out.

I was hoping The Daily would be so much more because I would like to support quality writing. Instead it is mostly a gossip rag with very short opinion articles which might as well just say "because I said so" (edit: I agree with the above poster that they missed a huge opportunity here by not citing any sources) and the occasional bit of tomorrows news in the issue a few days from now.

Honestly, I fixed the crash issue by deleting The Daily and switching to readability.com.

Actually what most media outlets push forth as "news" is more obscene than most porn. At least porn doesn't try to put on airs.

I know for a fact that apple would sell 46.4% more next generation iPads if they included an internal ODD.

I know for a fact apple would sell 1 more next generation ipad, and that would be to you! However, they would lose 1000s other sales.

Everyone keeps saying 4.3 is required for subscription content but I don't see that AT ALL. In fact if you go to account settings in The Daily you get the ability to enter your iTunes info, a iOS popup bubble dialog appears allowing you to select weekly or yearly. I selected weekly to see what would happen and sure enough I got an iTunes store EMAIL receipt showing I had been subscribed and how to cancel if I don't want recurring charges. This was all with good old 4.2 on my iPad.
