Hello!

Recently, me and my friend started developing apps for iOS. Our first app is called iFont - it lets you import font files to use in apps such as Keynote, Pages and Numbers, and also lets you view fonts already on the system and compare them.

It all started when I created a font but we couldn't see it on our iOS devices, much less install it and use it. We tried Anyfont (MacRumors story), and while it certainly provided inspiration, we thought some features were limited, and also it cost money. We endeavoured to create a free, better, alternative, that had more features.

So, we did it. From never having touched Objective-C in our lives, in a month iFont was created - and we hope you will love it as much as we loved creating it.

Download it here

We'd really appreciate it if you could give it a go. We've already heard of someone using it to install Calibri so all their work documents showed up properly in Pages, and it's great (if I do say so myself!) if you're a typography connoisseur - for example, seeing the minute details of each typeface, such as the units per em and cap height, among many other pieces of information.

Any feedback, positive or negative, would be most welcome - you can either PM me or contact us within the app at our email address. We want to make this app the best it can be, so we're busy adding native iPad support and localisation for French, German and Spanish which will hopefully come in a couple of months. If you have any other suggestions, please don't hesitate to contact me.

Thank you!

Bored of Book Antiqua? Find Comic Sans crummy? Is Garamond too garish? Indifferent towards Impace? Tired of Times New Roman? Turned off of Tahoma? Find Verdana vile? Discover your new favourite font with iFont today!

Looks great! I already did the in-app purchase for AnyFont to show a fellow MR forums user my support, but I'll definitely give your app a try too!

Thanks, your support means a lot!

We have to say that Anyfont definitely inspired us to create our app, and while it is great, we hoped we could build on its feature set with things like the compare view, Scratchpad and advanced view, while also offering it for free.

It would be great if .zip files of TTF files could "Open In" iFont. Anyfont does it and it makes like so much easier when I have a collection or a font family to import all at once. I use Documents by Readdle to grab the zips off Dropbox and install them on all my devices.

Zip compatibility is being worked on, though .ttf should work as is - are you having trouble with them? I've tested it, and both .otf and .ttf seem to work.

TTFs themselves work great. I just don't like having to do them one by one, like in the case of Cambria, Cambria Bold, Cambria Italic, and Cambria Bold Italic (which I have in a Microsoftfonts.zip file along with others).

Ah, ok, got you. Definitely will be in the next major version - can see it would be a great addition. Thanks for your input!

We passed 1,000 downloads this week - relatively modest in the grand scheme of things, but we're really happy. Thank you for your support if you've downloaded it.

v1.2 should be submitted by next weekend.

Version 1.2 is finally out after some delays with 6 Plus compatibility. Hope you all enjoy it on your new 4.7" and 5.5" iPhones! :D

Hi,

I'm very sorry for my late reply.

If you could send me a screenshot using the 'Contact Us' button in the app in Settings, I'll be able to help you out.

iFont 2.0

iFont has just been updated to version 2.0. Along with bug fixes from new features in previous versions (you can now install fonts without an active WiFi connection, use it on the iPad (further optimisation coming soon), Tweet us from the app), we have included a way to remove adverts and a new blue theme.

To celebrate over two-and-a-half years of iFont, we're offering 5 promo codes to remove adverts and enable the new blue theme. To enter, all you have to do is download iFont and email us from the Settings pane in the app and tell us either how you've used iFont or what else you'd like to see in iFont (or maybe both!).

The first five entries will receive a promo code.

Download iFont here: https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/ifont-install-custom-typefaces/id1173222289?mt=8

Thank you!

Exciting news - although (as promised in 2014!) iFont does support iPad, we're overhauling it in version 3.0 with a far better UI for the larger screen. Hopefully it can be the answer for many people looking to replace their MacBook with an iPad and are missing Font Book.

Here is a screenshot of an internal alpha running on a simulated 10.5" iPad Pro - should be making its way towards your iPad in the near future!

While your waiting for the free update, you can always download iFont 2.1.2 (with new bulk install options, a simplified help guide, and more) here: https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/ifont-install-custom-typefaces/id1173222289?mt=8

Any questions, please email us from within the app, PM me here or Tweet us @CodingCornerLLP. Thank you!
