I think i got pretty luck here but you guys let me know. Bought a Rev A macbook air on craigslist for like 900 a few months back, machine came with apple care and a few extras.

Then the enter key was sticking up slightly more on one side so i figured i have the support might as well take it in. The key was sticking up from a pervious repair. So the took it and fixed it. when i got it back the keys didn't light up and the sound was gone. I called and when i bought it back they gave me a new Rev B macbook air with an extra power adapter. Needless to say i was very happy.

I have heard of this happening to other people is it starting to become common?

It's not common, but it happens. I had a Rev A MBP replaced with a later rev a year or two ago, for example. Basically, if they decide to replace it because it's cheaper than continuing to repair it, they give you the current revision.

Wow, that is incredibly lucky. I don't think its a very common occurrence, but there is the "Lemon Law", and maybe they wanted to avoid you coming back in future with other Rev A related problems. Anyways, enjoy!

forgot to mention they were also willing to give me the cost of the current mba towards a differnt machine if i wanted a macbook or something along those lines. I thought that was really fair but i wanted to stick with the air as i use is mostly in class.

Wow wish that happened to me when my hinge broke.

Which Apple store was it? Was it a manager decision? Did you ask for it or they just gave it to you?

I may have to go there.

It was the apple store in cherry creek mall Denver CO. Yes i called in from the road the next morning when i was up in seattle and explained this is to many times. The manager said he wanted to make it right and that they would switch it out with a new machine when i came in. There were two failed repairs that lead to this so i don't know if they would do it for a hinge.

thanks for the info. i should give it a shot though seems dependent on how the manager is.

After they fixed the hinge, i noticed horrendous ghosting refresh delays on the lcd replacement. Quite annoying. Have been planning on taking it back to a store when i get a chance.

Awesome! I bought a Rev A on MacMall, and Apple later replaced it with a Rev B... I'm now on my third Rev B as they've had lines/bezel issues.

My store has been really cool about it.

That is a fantastic story and I am delighted for you. My experience with Apple has been very positive to date and the fact that they replaced my iPod (twice) when it died under warranty without seeking refuge in contractual small-print was one of the reasons I originally switched to Apple. Well done and may you long enjoy your Rev B MBA.

    Cheers and good luck

I bought a MacBook Air (revision A) from the refurb store in February. Something was wrong with the machine where it wouldn't keep the date and time. They confirmed it wasn't an OS issue and replaced the logic board. When that didn't work, they replaced the battery. That seemed to solve things but then my microphone stopped working.

Finally, they decided that enough was enough and they swapped my machine for a new, current-generation MacBook Air.

i had a very very similar occurence. in july 2007, i purchased a 2.4 ghz white macbook. one month later, white spots on my screen and failed hard drive. got it replaced and 3 months the hard drive fails twice in 2 weeks. So, the assistant manager was a real pain and told me that I was abusive towards my computer and he was going to revoke my apple care if I ever screwed with my computer. I was obviously pissed off, so I came back the next week when the manager was in town. She told me that the next time my computer needed repairs, she would replace it with a unibody. Sure enough, in January 09 my usb port stopped working. Originally she wanted to give me a 2.0 aluminum macbook because it was $1200 just like my white macbook. However, eventually she gave me the 2.4 aluminum macbook. I must say that I am very happy with Apple customer service, and I am sure that you are feeling delighted as well.

On a separate note, I saw the same assistant manager working as a concierge when I came in to buy an ipod 2 months later.
