FREE text to audio / podcast software?

Hi all,
I'm trialing GhostReader but am interested in whether or not there are free text-to-podcast readers out there? I've got a few chapters of really boring stuff to 'read' but I'd prefer to convert them into podcasts and listen while I do the dishes.

there is always the text to speech utility via services > speech > start speaking text. you can record this via garageband can't remember how to do it exactly.
