My Macbook Pro sometimes freezes when I try to shut down. If I hold the 'on' button for a few secs it switches off. Doesn't seem to do any harm but wonder why it happens?

First of all what kind of mac do you have? Ram might be little slow or you trashed up your Laptop. With mac it doesn't hurt as much when you restart the system pressing the button. If it freezes every time you might want to reset your system.
