freezing up, Fnder 1gb memory?!

Can somone explaint to me what just happened. My computer basically froze and finder was taking up 1.27gb of memory...
 
my 2.26 mbp apparently cant handle iphoto, microsoft word, and safari at the same time? all i did was open iphoto and that was it
 
You obviously have a problem. I assume you have 2 GB of memory. Have you checked your page outs? Have you repaired permissions?
