Frefox on Mac cannot be used

Pages on Firefox are full of ads since last night. I may have clicked on something bad when shopping days ago. Some read 'Ads by PriceMinus' in the bottom. I find many posts like this one. But they are about Windows. Is it the same on Mac? What should I get to protect my machine. It's pure of security applications.
Thanks for any advice.

P.S. Though Safari is a good browser, I prefer FF more.
