I have had the 6 since launch and just decided to pick up a 6+ to both use and be my iPad Mini replacement.

What is the best way to use the two devices if I will be swapping SIMs frequently? Set up one the main number with iMessage and the other without, etc.

In a perfect world I would love to be able to receive messages and such on the 6+ while using the 6 as my main phone (whether through continuity or iMessage). Then when I switch my SIM into the 6+ just have it work as it should and am not concerned with messaging back to the 6 while I am using the 6+ as my main phone.

I know the above is a little confusing, but is any of that possible or does the fact that the 6+ is a phone make what I am trying to do not completely possible.

Thanks for any thoughts/input.

sounds like you're not sure how to best utilize 6+ ? why wouldnt you just keep it as a phone, rather than switching back and forth? So are you having two lines of service with your devices?

Your line of service is tied to your sim card, so when you switch your sim card between devices, you'll still get calls/message to that device.

i am still not sure why you'd like to switch back forth?

That sounds rather impractical. Why not iPad mini with cellular and you'll be able to receive iMessages, etc. Even coupled with the Apple Watch to receive notifications.

I like them both but sometimes when I head out I would rather use the 6 because of the smaller size. During the week and for work the 6+ is the better device. I do not mind having the two lines.

I want to replace the Mini with the Air for travel and work. I get there is some craziness to this, but curious if others have found a good way or best way to pull it off.

i am still a little confused what you're trying to accomplish?
if you dont mind switching sim, then just switch sim.

are you not sure if imessage/text will appear on both devices? why would you have one main number and one secondary number?

if you just want to switch devices for size convenience, take the sim out, no problem.

If you want one phone number to be simultaneously on both devices, i dont think you can do it..... maybe you should port your number to GV?

I own both, each has its advantages.

They're enough for me to enjoy the variety, plus if one goes down, gets lost or stolen, I simply grab the other one and continue on with my day.

That alone is priceless. :)

Glad others have the same ideas usage. For texts appearing in both are you keeping a sim in the 6+ when not in use or did you keep it for Wifi only use when using your 6?

My text messages show on my MAC and on my phone. I think you have them show on both phones.

But - for me - I can barely keep track of one phone.

wow.

Seems both like a complete waste and a complete hassle. Seems like you're complicating your life unnecessarily. Pick one phone and stick with it, and stick with the iPad.

Seems foolish to sell an iPad mini to replace it with a virtually duplicate phone that costs money monthly and then deal with the hassle of switching and maintaining and syncing etc.

To each their own I guess, but personally I'd make an executive decision on phone size and keep the iPad. A 5.5" screen isn't a substitute for an iPad mini.

Just add the phone to your account, like with "friends and family" or whatever, then you can grab either phone you want, whenever you want.

Frequently Switching Between 6 & 6+ (Advice)

It is working pretty well switching between the two thus far. Text forwarding is a great feature to make this work exactly as I want. Have to do a couple of tweaks once you swap SIMS but it is preety seamless.

Have a good holiday everyone.
