Did a fresh clean install of high Sierra on my trusty old 2012 MacBook Pro 9,1 15" because Mojave just wasnt working and i wanted to run a few 32bit apps. I also did a fresh install back in march during the lock down on a Mac Pro and yet currency conversion does not work on the MacBook Pro. I even tried a fresh download and install yet its not functioning. Besides doing a third fresh install, which i certainly dont wish to do, any suggestions?

Thanks

Something to try: Uncheck conversions. Restart. Re-check conversions.

Thanks but that does not do it either. Ill type in $1 or 1CAD or 1USD or even £100 and it brings up my spam emails lol

You could reset the spotlight database. There's a terminal command to do that, but I don't have that anywhere.
I use the alternate of adding the boot drive to the Spotlight pref pane/Privacy tab. Close the System preferences briefly. re-launch your System Preferences/Spotlight pane, and remove your boot drive from the Privacy tab. It may take several minutes, to an hour or more to rebuild.
Hopefully, that will fix your issue.

I tried the privacy thing you suggested and all that did was kill spotlight completely even after deleting it. I found the terminal line and fired spotlight back up but the same issue persists. no Currency conversion. If I type in anything with a dollar, or even £ or USD I get all the BS junk mail since Spotify searches that for some odd reason.

Are you waiting for the spotlight database to rebuild? Rebuild can take more than an hour on some Macs, maybe longer if your 2012 MBPro still has a spinning hard drive.
(What do you get if you try a currency conversion after unchecking the Mail & Messages setting in Spotlight settings?)

Well I just tried it now again, after a few days, so it should have rebuilt by now. Still no go. Funny thing is I unchecked mail and messages and types in £300 and it went to searching my youtube history... Carthrottle and the £300 pound challenge LMAO.

This machine has had an SSD in it since 2015 to my recollection. So im at a loss of words for why this is giving me grief.
